Re: What is "lift"?
at first i thought the angle of attack would increase but on second thought no it wouldn't because you are adding power to keep the same airspeed. if the power setting stayed the same and airspeed dropped then the AOA would increase, am i wrong? the same speed is to be kept in the climb the

Re: Floatplane Incident in Sask Wheat Field
C-FOAW, a privately registered Stinson SR9FM float-equipped aircraft, was taking off from an unnamed lake located 2 kms north of Unity, Saskatchewan with the pilot and 1 passenger on board. During the initial climb at approximately 300 ASL, the engine (P&W R985) power began to degrade and the aircr...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
To leave no one hanging: Abbotsford is managed by Victoria terminal, not Vancouver. Pitt is indeed very close to the published STARS to Vancouver for 26’s. Airplanes are routinely given descent down to 3000 there. If you are low and out of Class C, it is a good idea to monitor your nearest tower be...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
Personally, I would start with direct and modify if required. If you want to be able to plan ahead of time though, why not use one of the two published VFR Routes to cross the water? For YYJ YKA I think East Point to Cherry Point would be appropriate. Why WC? Im sitting at home and i have a somewha...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
I always plan to fly around the class C airports when i fly from YYJ to YKA and i try to make it (in my belief) as less intrusive as possible to ATC when i do it. The only reason i want to be in terminal airspace to be honest is the idea of a mid-air collision in the idiot show of uncontrolled airsp...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
This kind of help -- IS offered by other ATC facilities when a wait or course change is required. It's ATC's role to create safe solutions and offer them -- IMO... Or is the onus on the low time PPL to argue for it and deny a clearance? The majority of controllers are not/were not pilots. I don't k...

lawsuit happy people, aren't they the ones that pretty much brought Cessna, Piper and Beechcraft to their knees in the late eighties?

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
How is getting a tower controller in Langley to give you flight following practical? The zone is 3 miles, by the time you get a word in edgewise you're long gone. VFR traffic is allowed in class C terminal airspace, it says so right in the AIM. I get tired of this VFR frowned upon in Vancouver term...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
how about this scenario: (and it happened to someone i know) there is a notam saying VFR traffic in Vancouver class C airspace MAY be denied. It's a nice clear day and you have to fly from YYJ to YVR to pick up the wife who just flew in from Mexico. you get your code and clearance in YYJ says no to ...

GPS trackers are “fail-safe”. They leave a trail of breadcrumbs that ends when the unit is destroyed or electrical power is removed—and it’s likely going to be close to the crash site. That's fine for super wealthy elite 1% guys. What about us po' folk? Those units are like a hunnerd an fitty bucks...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
To answer your last question Stabilized: As PF says, it's simply nice when Terminal talks to us in busy airspace, we don't need to be any higher and inside the class C. YYZ operates multiple satellites on different frequencies, so they can do this....I do recognize it's a much bigger airspace. Flyi...

Re: Is the Class C Control Zone at Langley Airport Dysfunctional?
From my experience seems terminal is dumping their traffic problems onto towers. Last time I was there, terminal only said, "no contact, remain clear". No VFR service. I've heard it's long been that way. Perhaps it's teminal that needs to be fixed. I've had that as well, no VFR service from termina...

Even Hope Air requires a minimum private licence. What this guy was doing seems like an odd charity to donate your time to if that's the case.iflyforpie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 1:16 pm Probably not for hire or reward. Like CASARA, Hope Air, etc.

A "recreational pilot permit"? I thought a commercial licence would be required for his work.
