Re: The Importance of Seat Height in Initial Flight Training
Strongly agree with BPF here. I do it slightly differently, asking the student to make sure that their eyes are level with the door trim of the aircraft for Cessna 150/152/172/182. But the idea is the same, you need to have enough of a view of the outside that you don't become an accidental instrume...

Re: Where should you keep the maintenance logbooks
Journey log stays on aircraft. Rest of records are kept in a safe place. As per CARS. Not necessarily true. Journey Log only needed on board if you are planning to shut down anywhere other than departure. So in theory, circuits or flights to the practice area do not require the Journey Log. CARs 60...

Re: Twin engine input
Private maintenance: CAR625 Appendix B & C: inspection once a year with a local AME. Fix things as they break, but you get a lot of latitude since nobody is checking. Run the engines on condition for as long as you like (and you think they're safe). Change your own oil, tires, battery, filters. I'v...

Re: Renewing Expired Flight Instructor Rating
Sharper Edge is very well laid out in my opinion but I would highly recommend double checking the information in there. I have found some major gaffes and the publisher is usually good about putting up errors and omissions on their website for the latest version. But still highly recommend double ch...

Re: Twin engine input
Since you are closer to sea level for altitude, you wouldn't need anything turbocharged per se. Piper Seminoles seem to be the defacto choice for a lot of flight schools for ME training from what I have seen. Smaller engines that sip fuel more judiciously would seem to be the selling point I guess...

Re: Flight Instructor Rating
I'm doing mine now but have been put on hold because TC is not doing any Instructor flight exams. I would suggest you contact the nearest TC inspector about this. I can think of a few examiners who can do initial instructor rating flight tests. Harv Penner at Harv's Air in MB, Lenora Crane at the C...

Re: ASA CX3 flight computer or cellphone app?
It’s not possible for a CX3 to be much different to a CX2. If it was it would be called a QR27, or something. But, it’s called a CX3, being an upgrade to the turd-like CX2.The simulator proves the point. They’re both a pile of steaming turd compared to an E6B. Oh come on, photofly. I have come to e...

Re: ASA CX3 flight computer or cellphone app?
Don’t bother with anything but an E6B. You’ll never use any flight computer in real life. Disagree. If the OP is going to become a professional pilot, there will be at least 4-5 exams that they will need the flight computer for over the course of their first 5 years in aviation. Not to mention how ...

Re: ASA CX3 flight computer or cellphone app?
As an ardent fan of the E-6B, I say go for a CX-3. Hear me out. I have used and taught using both a CX-2 and an E-6B extensively for many years now, I could always see that using an E-6B was the superior choice for many reasons. Someone who has learned to use the E-6B at an average PPL level can do ...

Re: RPP+Floats or PPL+Floats
I think if you're really into doing floats then look into places like Air Hart where you can do all your training on floats from scratch. The RPP restricts you to a maximum of 1 pax despite being able to fly up to a maximum size of a 4 seater aircraft. You could make up your mind at about the halfwa...

Re: Overflying (R) Aerodromes where PPR is required?
Call the operator , sometimes they might maybe give you permission to land . Some people like to know who is landing is all . Been to a few places like that they enjoy their airport if you respect the property they might even let you return . Case of beer usually works :) Agree on this. A lot of PP...

Re: List of Pilot Examiners for Initial Instructor Rating?
I know of a person who is based out of in the Southern Interior of BC but flies out to Whitehorse to do initial Flight Instructor flight tests but can do other tests out of BC... I am starting to think that this might be a policy of the Pacific region?

Re: Logbook Corrections
Any correction in any aviation document, your log book, the journey log, OFP etc etc has to be done in a way that allows the incorrect entry to be visible. If you make a mistake the most common method is to draw a line through the incorrect entry in such a way that it is still intelligible and then...

https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/CAS-SAC/acps.aspx?lang=eng Thanks! I believe that page is for ACP and not Pilot Examiners. Re: Flight test before written exam ?
I think a good flight instructor should be able to ensure that their student is prepared enough for the ground portion of a flight test. Totally agree that completing the written prior will help a lot, but so too can good instruction (albeit with a little more attention to detail)

Re: Awos Canada
I don't see one for hope. The others list a frequency. So they don't have a direct phone number, I'm guessing you would have to call FSS I'm guessing you're equating AWOS to a phone-in, pre-recorded ATIS announcement on the lines of what they have at some major aerodromes including in CZBB, etc.?
