I know one thing about this argument.
If there were no pilots to work the ground jobs...
There would be a lot companies who would be completely screwed trying to staff their operation.

Re: Actual training cost
EDIT: Imagine plugging a USB in a newer trainer with a glass cockpit prior to flight. After landing, remove USB and plug it into a computer. Flight data that was recorded is manifested into a visual representation of your entire flight through a computer based program. Am I dreaming?? This really s...

Oh another thing.... Never underestimate the value of chair flying.
Visualize the excersises at home run through the drills over and over again in your head, and surprise, you will get to the plane and know how to do them.

Re: Actual training cost
It all depends, the real killer can be the dual hours. Also rent the cheapest plane you can ie 152 all day every day no matter what. Granted it was a few years ago 2009, but when I decided to get my licenses I dedicated a year, and did it pretty much full time PPL to CPL MIFR took about a year and l...

Brampton to Tobermory is a good flight, or if you have some more time head on up to Manitoulin.

Re: 300nm XC/CPL
The flight school i was at had a stupid rule that I was not ALLOWED to complete the 300 nm on my own unless I was going to stay at my destination overnight and fly back the next day because I would be "too tired" to complete the trip. This was the school that had a couple few students fall asleep on...

...to downright stupid. I wonder what this is doing for future bookings for AC (and WJ and JAzz, for that matter.) I have to fly 1/2 way across the country next week in order to get to my job. When I booked back in February, there was the glimmer of labour unrest @ AC on the horizon. Did i want the...

Honestly, I think its going to happen shortly.

Is there any word on where it is going afterwards? Is there going to be another fuel stop at a Canadian airport?

Re: Probation
If an employee quits without giving notice, and the employer suffers actual loss as a result, the employer should be able to withhold one day’s pay from any monies owing to the employee for each week of the notice period that the employee has failed to complete. If an employer wrongfully withholds ...

Re: Newbie applying for work
Depends where you are applying.
I would suggest applying for the ramp job specifically and gear your resume towards that.
Maybe mention in your cover letter that you are a pilot, but do not stress it.
Be humble, and they will like you more.

Re: Flight instructing vs Working the ramp. Doesn't add up?
Try and get an aviation related job even as a summer one as soon as you can. It will help a lot for when you are either applying as a flight instructor or for when you want to go somewhere else and work the ramp. I would also make the suggestion of trying to find that job where you also might be doi...

Remember that TC allows you to log up to 20 hrs of the required instrument time in a sim, and that's probably where you can save the most money. It's incredible what a little twin costs per hour now in Canada. Unbelievable, actually. I've heard in excess of $1000/hr for a light twin with 4 cyl engi...

Re: Night Ratings CARs Clarification
Yes, sorry, I was referring to the dual instrument time. So, that said, I should only need to do an additional 5 with the instructor. Any official-ish references that state this more explicitly? thats as official as it gets. If it was a post PPL requirement it would explicitly say so, like the dual...

I dont think V1 is really V1 when you have lifted off in the first 1/5 of the runway and can land come to a full stop and take off again before you run out of tarmac.

What do we do with the supersize people? Do we just let then die because there is no way to transport them? If a supersize person living in Iqaluit has a heart attack, how do they get them to a cardiac hospital. I heard a "story" of an 800 lb'er in just that situation. I dont know if it was Iqaluit...
