Just because it's the most visible airline in Canada...doesn't automatically make it the best option to hang your hat for everyone.

AC is a huge downward force on salary in Canada. Some people don't want to support that.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

I'm personally dipping into the HELOC to pay the mortgage and hoping for a quick upgrade... That was the financial advice I got from a senior WB Captain about 7 years ago, who was slightly out of touch with the starting wages. Had no idea the first 4 years kept pilots under 100k on paper, and that ...

You can imagine that'll likely be the plan if you look at how aggressively Porter is expanding with their E2 fleet. There is only so much talent you can acquire operating out of the east.

Question is - what is their plan then, cause it's certainly not to pay more for flight crew?

Re: New hire bids

No CA spots in GS? Other than new-hires that are current as CA on the Q400 or CRJ, it is possible that the DEC initiative may be on hold. Reality is the language in the current CBA is not conducive to DEC hiring. No idea if there is any dialogue ongoing between ALPA and the company. If there is, th...

Can you pay your mortgage on 4 years of flat pay ?
I paid 3 mortgages while on it. In fact, I'm still on it.
I'm guessing you're renting out property and using the rental income to supplement mortgage payments.

Re: 5th freedom flying

I wonder what BA thinks of this. I wonder what AC thought of BA (both as BOAC and British Airways) flying YUL-ORD, YYZ-DTW, YUL-DTW, YYZ-JFK, etc. BA has enjoyed fifth freedom rights through Canada for more than 6 decades! I certainly didn't realize it was as common as it is. My first post was wond...

Well then that's pretty solid. 4.2M for 1 King Air and 12 hour availability leaves room.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

How are guys still affording to make this move? Did you think you voting no to the MOA would have made any difference? I think voting no to the MOA was important to let management know the constant cycle of taking from Peter to pay Paul has to end. MOA still had flat pay - and my question still sta...

Re: Who is the BC Medevac contract going to?

What about the overhead for the rest of the fleet? I'm sure they aren't asking for 1 King Air. Each king air has at least 4 crew to keep the 24 hour on-call plus reserve, and nurses. It starts to whittle down pretty quickly unfortunately. Not to mention factoring for depreciation or profit. This doe...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

I wonder at what point on increasing oay or bonuses/rate adjustment to flightcrew would cross them from a profit to a loss and how AC would handle them trying to squeeze more money for pilot retention/attraction?

If the border was open and would allow free flow of experience, they probably would. At this point Canadians are not even on the radar as a reasonable option.

Re: US Regionals: 100k upfront bonus for DEC captains

This is madness. This is pure capitalism at it's finest and that 1500 hour rule is the best thing to happen to the U.S aviation industry from a pilots point of view. It's essentially a reverse bond, 24 month agreement and we'll give you 100k upfront. I could rip on several areas of our industry, but...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Wow, still so few jazz, considering how far hiring is behind for jazz. They’re not “behind” on anything. That “flow” agreement was always just an exercise to get more pilots into jazz. They never intended to actually follow it, especially post covid. You know it’s a four party signed agreement that...
