Re: Beef flys a plane.

The saying here is your metric height minus 100 is your ideal weight. So I am 1meter 73, which means 73 kilos is a normal weight. This is what I weighted when I was 18!
I am not much of a tail wheel fan, and prefer the 172s. Let's see what develops. :P

AN-24 VS Dash-8

We had a small encounter here, at our small airport last week. A Dash-8 was sitting on the apron, waiting to take off. An AN-24 landed, and wings kissed. A good kiss. almost 2 meters of embrace. The Antonov on top, and the Dash below. Anyway, the Dash is still there, waiting for parts, aileron and w...

Keep it up Beef, it will get easier. The stomach has to shrink too. The happy feeling of joy, when buying smaller jeans is awesome, and worth it. Dessert, sugar in the coffee, soda, and all salt must go. Then, get rid of your fast food habits, then bread and starches... :smt040 I wish I could help y...

Re: New Canadian Passport Fees

Be sure to get the 48 pager before July 1st then. It's only 5 bucks more than the 24 pager at $92. Some scumbag countries take an entire page for one visa. Many countries put a full page visa on your passport, including Canada. :smt040 But 10 years is good news. And one day service is also good new...

Re: Co-pilot course.... Interesting.

Why couldn't the pilot just teach his/her passenger? Says the single man. My wife has asked about doing some learning to fly, and I've told her that I know an excellent instructor for her. She won't listen to me in the rest fo the world, why would that change if we were in an airplane together? thi...

Re: DA-20 Cold ops.

if you inadvertently leave it there in spring ... boy the engine will overheat in a second Effective winter kits can be a problem when it warms up. I remember a few years back, on a warm spring day, a low-time pilot declared an emergency in his 172 - redline oil temp - and landed at our airport. Yo...

You never know what would happen. Do flies and small birds fly at 13,000 feet? We have them here, at that altitude, and mosquitoes too...

Re: Lucky charm or mascot

The thought of a pilot needing a lucky charm to help him keep his or her aircraft safe makes me feel physically sick. I'll second your comment. Also, I have to admit that my mascots are usually fuel, altitude, good weather/aircraft/crew/training, etc... There is also something about runway lengh in...

Re: Kenn Borek Antarctic Cause/Speculation Thread

Hiking with heavy packs through Nepal and sitting in an airplane have slightly different levels of physical exertion. Not sure many of us could do 50 push ups in the back of the old Dak at 13000 feet. Not that many of us could do 50 push ups at sea level in Rhode Island either, but it would be hope...

Re: Kenn Borek Antarctic Cause/Speculation Thread

Hypoxia would not have been a problem. Not sure of base camp altitudes, but I believe it was around 6,000. Anyone who has lived at that altitude builds a tolerance. True. I have lived the past three years at 8400 feet, and we regularly fly at 15,000 feet without oxygen for the passengers, and crew. ...

Has anyone heard the 911 call from the Toyota with the stuck accelerator pedal? 4 people on board, including an engineer, and instead of turning the car off or stepping on the brake they called 911 for help. 4 dead. Amazing how no one wants to do anything for themselves any more, including thinking...

Re: Learning from accident reports

To keep the tread honest, yes, we should read, and learn from, accident reports. These all go in the subconscient mind, and one day, can save you.
I would say the same applies to any activity that involves risk, like driving, scuba diving, parachute...

Re: have you ever had lack of profess.. aftr interview?by h.

I spend a lot of time here interviewing candidates. The rule is that we make a long list of qualified candidates, then technically clear them to a short list. Then, a written test is given to them, and the best 4 or 5 get invited for an interview. Actually, anyone of these is a potential winner. The...

Re: Can I have a cat?

I would recommend having a cat, as a struggling new aviator, for a few reasons. First, they are the most economical pet to own. Second, they will help you get rid of the pest you'll encounter while living in your de-luxe provided accommodations. Third, people will not get sick seeing all those cat f...

The only time I missed a connection, was a few years ago, flying Moscow-Toronto, with a ticket for North Bay 3 hours later. Well, a drunk and unruly passenger was subdued on the flight, and died. It took more than 3 hours to get off the plane in Toronto, having to wait for a coroner to come to the s...

Re: Be wary of re sellers

Fuel issues can be very interesting, by what you find out, and by what you don't. In my previous life, I sold Avgas and Jet B for 10 years at a small airport. I also ran a service station for 14 years. Never did any testing, as the fuel company was taking samples at every delivery, and carrying the ...

Re: Piper PA-28-140 C-GXGB Lake Ontario 24 February 1994

I tend to also think so. The pilot had 17,000 hours experience, mostly in pipeline patrol. 3000 ft is not such a bad ceiling either. My feeling is that it would have been easier to stage his disapearance on the Canadian coast, where he was flying, then cross the lake at low altitude. Thanks ...
