Re: Seeking advice on pilot application in Canada

A couple of questions: 1) What country is your experience from? What aircraft type? 2) You have PR or citizenship in Canada, right? 3) If you've been applying for 6 months and have 650 hours, have been gaining experience over the last 6 months, you probably started applying with very little flying t...

Re: Merger and bases

YUL is staying open. It’s been confirmed Confirmed by ? Was there an official release from management? WJ management or SWG management? SWG management has a habit of telling their pilots whatever it takes to get them off their back. Remember, "there will be no changes with the sale", "there won't b...

Re: will there be a repeat of 1991-95 ?

Who do you think is flying on an Air Canada A220 from DFW to YYZ? A bunch of canadians coming back from a BBQ and astros game? Maybe some, but it’s mostly comprised of people connecting throughout the WORLD Tokyo, Mumbai, Rio, you name it, can have people connect through Canada. Do you really think...

Re: Realistic upgrade time

This exercise is a fool's errand. The upgrade time for FO's who've been around for 9 years is about 9 years+/- 1 year. The farther down the list goes, the greater the uncertainty. Keep in mind that, historically, the upgrade time is 15 years. For a 30 year career, 1/2 will be in the left seat, half...

Re: Realistic upgrade time

What do you mean historically 15 years? Do you mean 15 years as an average across Canada? Do you mean 15 years at Air Canada? Westjet upgrades (assuming most junior base), have never been more than 10 years. Wasn't Westjet a fairly quick upgrade for the first 10-15 years of it's operation? Aviation...

Christina Thomson in memorium

Canadian aviation has lost a giant. Christina Thomson passed away recently. Christina was a tireless organizer of WestJet pilots having served on the MEC and most recently, deftly preparing WestJet pilots for a strike as the chair of the Strategic Preparedness and Strike Committee. Besides her endur...

I assume that because you're on here you have an interest in aviation?

You could volunteer as a spotter or navigator for the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA). https://www.casara.ca/

The fact that you're not completing the training exercises. If you're spending more time getting from A to B then you are doing steep turns, holds, approaches, etc then you're not doing training.

Re: Can a training bond that was NOT signed be enforced?

Today I received the formal notice. They're asking for 24000$, even more than was supposed to be claimed Let this be a lesson to all new pilots. 1) don't work for shady outfits 2) don't sign bonds or, especially, work for companies that have their bonds in an employee handbook. 3) if you must sign ...

Re: Can a training bond that was NOT signed be enforced?

First off, are you in Quebec or somewhere else in Canada? I know nothing about Quebec's civil law system, so take that into account. My previous employer had me on TWO different bonds The first one was for Navajo which is 5500$ for one year. There is no clause that says that the amount loses 1/12 ea...

Re: Illegal wages

Again how the relationship between instructor and school is defined on paper matters most and will determine status of instructor. That's incorrect. What matters is the facts of the case, not what the employer dictates. Having control over your own work, which is foundational to a contract for serv...

Re: Illegal wages

Is the instructor an employee or independent contractor? If contractor, then they only earn when they are providing instruction and not for time on property. Don't like it tell the school you want to be categorized as employee but I'm willing to bet unless you have some leverage in the negotiation,...

Get ready for a world class contract! World class: United, Cathay, Emirates, Delta, Qantas, Qatar, American, British Airways, Singapore, ANA, Air France, Lufthansa, Korean & Japan. Air Canada pilots prepare for a world class contract! You deserve it! NOT a substandard Westjet contract… Cathay has a...
