Re: Unusual traffic in Canadian skies?
Daniel.o, Usually when journalists come on this site looking for information they post their full names. This enables us to read what they have already written on the subject and see if they are actual aviation journalists or just hacks. Aviation reporting is a specialized subset of journalism requi...

Re: Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
My correction was about aircraft with transponders rather than aircraft with a removed transponder but yes, removing the transponder installation will remove that requirement from your maintenance schedule.

Re: Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
There's no such thing as VFR-only instruments, unless you mean the aircraft isn't equipped per 605.18. If you're referring to the 24 month altimetry check, that's required before any flight not only in IFR but also VFR in transponder airspace (classes B and C, and D where notified) as dictated in C...

Re: Weekend Feild Annuals
Are you going to incorporate or register a proprietorship? Incorporation provides more ability to deduct expenses and may provide some legal protection but is much more expensive to maintain. From a strictly financial point of view incorporating only makes sense once you are bringing in $50k+. If yo...

Emails from Saudi Arabia?

Re: Float Time
Counts for what? Insurance? Job qualification? Licencing?
Ultralight float time definitely counts as ultralight float time. It doesn't count as seaplane time towards a seaplane rating on a pilot licence. It counts for anything else I can think of.

Lol, free hint: as soon as you see VMC Aviation Videos prepare yourself for something mind numbingly banal.Yycjetdriver wrote: ↑Fri Feb 19, 2021 3:48 pm What a let down, I thought I was going to see someone taxi a jet into a hangar.

Re: Fuel density effect on range/fuel capacity US West coast against south east Asia
The geographic issue referenced in code7700 is a fuel manufacturing composition difference. Different density, therefore different volume/kg, but there's no suggestion in the article of different energy content per kg. True, but there has to be a reason for the resulting differences he discusses. h...

Re: Fuel density effect on range/fuel capacity US West coast against south east Asia
The geographic issue referenced in code7700 is a fuel manufacturing composition difference. Think of it this way, the manner in which the jet fuel is manufactured in SE Asia gives you more “bang for your buck” gravimetrically (energy content per unit weight [kg]) vs West coast of NA where you get m...

Yes, I'm just surprised that this is a surprise.
In any case, how often does this make a difference? In my career I can think of only 3 times where I needed full tanks.

Re: Fuel density effect on range/fuel capacity US West coast against south east Asia
While I find most of Eddie's material excellent, I'm struggling with that article. Aside from the odd 414, any corporate aircraft is either a turboprop or a jet. Either way, fuel flow is measured in pounds or kg per hour, not liters or gallons. When you uplift with a single point system, you tell th...

Re: CYNJ CADORS
I've had a CADOR in Langley, it was my fault. TC Enforcement called me about it, I admitted the mistake and said I wouldn't do it again. Never heard from them again. A friend of mine got a CADOR in Langley, he couldn't figure out what he'd done wrong. We got the AIM out and reviewed VFR circuit proc...

Re: Carb fire season
Is using the primer while the engine is running a common practice? This is the first time I've heard about it. It's common practice for anyone who understands intimately that an engine needs fuel/air/spark to work and wants to keep it running when for various reasons it needs more fuel. There are d...
