Re: Nanchang CJ-6 down in Victoria BC

Hey Buddy.... Please. Digest away. I am not the only one who is interested in what your takeaway from this was. I did read all the posts again. I am not bitter at all. I just dont like ambulance chasers, who love to speculate (read gossip) and then pretend it is a learning experience. Been around lo...

Re: Canada not ruling out stake in Canadian airlines...

The government could invest in airports, infrastructure, and Nav Canada.... And eliminate the taxes, and fees, which would help the whole industry. Of course baggage fees, and seat selection fees would remain. And no refunds, of course. People are totally fine with the add ons and the manipulated pr...

Re: What's with the "circle check" before takeoff?

I am amazed that when backed into a corner for doing something stupid, pilots suddenly want to start defining the conditions, or the old..” one time, at flight school” I agree with photo. It is not a thing. Butthat does not mean some boneheads are out there doing it. Once you pass the hold line you ...

Re: Nanchang CJ-6 down in Victoria BC

. Does anyone else know for a fact where he touched down? Does it really matter? Minimal damage. No one hurt. Picking it apart Is a bit unnecessary. If I had to skid my plane in, I would be more than a little put out to read all the computer Captains sitting, back, relaxing, and second guessing me....

Re: Westjet slashes Service to Maritimes

Its all about profit , eh? We certainly like to eat our own, don’t we. There was almost no one travelling! Why would any airline continue to operate with only 5-10 people going back and forth. Where there is no demand, there is no need for a service. Yep, the premiers , mayors, politicos would love ...

Re: What's with the "circle check" before takeoff?

After 5 + decades of flying, one sometimes thinks they have heard everything. Then someone comes up with this. I can’t really understand how this would work . With the reliability of radios today, it seems a bit unnecessary (yes, yes, nordos could be there....so could a freak invisible windshear. Th...

Re: Spins before solo?

Naughty? That is hilarious. The kind of thing we used to see the folks at TC do all the time. In reading over the posts here, it seems there is a lot of confusion of what actually is a spin. I am not certain of the modern day definition, but we used to consider it a spin when the relative air flow w...

Re: Spins before solo?

The turn onto final scenario , I think, is generally is caused by the incorrect use of rudder to tighten the turn and thus cross controlling the aircraft. There is no need to add 10 knots for safety. Learn to fly a co ordinated turn, and know when to do an overshoot if you are not lined up properly....

Re: Spins before solo?

Unless things have changed, spin training must be done a minimum of 2000 AGL, or higher if the AFM requires it. But I agree that the aim should be to stay out of a bad situation. Easier than trying to get out of one. And things like making certain the student has precise airspeed control, and know e...

Re: Spins before solo?

BPF Scenario based training....for ppl students. Somewhat like an SMS program for a one aircraft charter operator. Downsized from advanced training where it works well. I can just see visualize some 20 year old instructor jumping all over that. “Grand Theft Airplane....“. Kind of like the first indi...

Re: Spins before solo?

That is the way I was taught as an instructor when we still did spin training. Pre solo a demo , fam , and a bit of practice on aggravated stalls ( in Canada speak..... incipient spin) . One...just a single simple demo of a full spin. That is enough pre solo. The student will not be flying solo abov...

Don’t you just hate it when this happens :smt040

I think that is maybe one of those things the pilot will not repeat, though nowadays, some might consider it a challenge to repeat it.

I am surmising from the aircraft type, it was a licensed pilot.

TSGarp and any others who have instructed in both systems. I would be very interested to read your thoughts on how civilian flight training might be improved upon. For years I have been harping on the fact that CFIs are not properly supervising absolutely zero experience instructors, and, in the las...

Re: Is this The End of the Pilot Career

As humans, and pilots, we are very attached to our emotions and perspectives. But there are people who look at causes. At statistics. As emerging technology improves, there will maybe be a point in time when automation will prove to make fewer errors then pilots do. At that point, automation will be...

Re: Science-Based Alternative to Ease Quarantine Act Restrictions

The question was, what would this look like 30 years ago? Well, without Trump in the chair there would be at least 100,000 fewer dead Americans. Is this another science based fact? What actual data do you have to back this kind of claim? Or should we consign it to the same level of credibility that...
