Re: Airmanship and fuel pumps (OldDog)

767 I let an instructor like you fly my aircraft on one occasion and the dumb-assed idiot went through the routine, failed to follow my instructions and damned near wrote us off on take-off. I instructed for 38 years before I decided to call it quits...and out of respect to your students maybe you ...

Re: Airmanship and fuel pumps (OldDog)

Don't understand your whole strobe light issue. On the bases I have worked at it is mandatory that the strobe light be on prior to engine start and until engine shut down. This is the one thing that on a very noisy flightline kept people from walking/driving/taxing to close to running aircraft jetwa...

Re: Why is speculating about accidents bad?

Playing devils advocate for a minute..... Speculation is bad because.... Maybe by speculation we come to a possible conclusion that is wrong. We change the way we do things based on inaccurate information. That change causes us to react inappropriately to a set of circumstances we encounter which in...

Re: Entry Aircraft

Intersesting topic, open loop-closed loop. Reminds me of teaching Defensive BFM , You have to look back over your shoulder at the other aircraft, you can't just look out front at the attitude and the instruments. If you do you will go blind on the bad guy, and you can't fight what you can't see. So ...

Re: Entry Aircraft

My 13 your old son and I just learned to snow board. I had the advantage of taking it up briefly last year , went about 8 times. He started this year. Withing both of us going to the hill three times he can now snowboard better than I can. Flying being a motor skill as well, I am sure the learning p...

Re: How much cost to learn to flight helicopter?

There is one presupposition here that doesn't work. You can't learn to fly a helicopter. Helicopters don't fly. They are just so ugly the earth rejects them.

Ok... I have some friends flying helo's.... just trying to get them riled up. Can't wait for the jet jokes to come back.

Re: Single Pilot IFR/Dual Pilot IFR

Not sure what the big deal is here. In 20 years of flying for a living I have very rarely flown 2 pilot IFR. Except instructing I have rarely flow with another person in the aircraft. I would rather fly alone! No committee to decide things. That being said moving from one part of my life to a new on...

Re: Red Bull Air Race 2009 - Windsor, Ontario

Windsor is my hometown, but I haven't been there since 98 for an airshow. Might be a good excuse to go back and see some friends.

Re: Entry Aircraft

Having 2 teenage boys with at least one having an interest in aviation I have a feeling much of the time the second seat would be occupied. Also with some of the aircraft might take the wife on short (ie under 200 mile) cross countries. With a single that would necessitate buying (at some point in t...

Re: CS vs. FP Props

I've been looking at Thorp T18's lately and have found that the C/S versions have the advantage of climbing faster, Why do you want to climb faster than 500fpm in an unpressurized aircraft? can use a shorter runway for takeoff yes and also allow the plane to slow down faster Negative trust on the s...

Re: Entry Aircraft

Ok... here is one question to add to the thread... options... for a two seat... I want to be able to take friends and family (my kids) etc for a ride now and again and show them what it is like to go upside down and pull G. I know a decathlon is a good option and one I am seriously considering, What...

Re: PBY - Catalina TV on NOW

Cat, how about for taxing etc or anchored, If you were on the water after it got rough.. and could taxi (slow speed) to the lee of an island or something... what would it handle and still be in the "fairly comfortable" area. If I were a rich man I would love one of these decked out like an RV on the...

Re: PBY - Catalina TV on NOW

Hey Cat, What kind of waves could the Canso handle comfortably? Btw, nice list of things seen/done. I wish I had of kept track of those kinds of things myself. Being a new age "magic cockpit" type, my list would be different for sure but I am sure looking back on it with my grandkids down the road i...

Re: PBY - Catalina TV on NOW

In Canada we built them for WWII and called them Canso's but essentially the same aircraft. http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/site/equip/historical/cansolst_e.asp Maybe not a Spitfire or a Lancaster.... but still a major historical aircraft for Canada in the War as well as for our allies. I would lov...

Re: Sault College Reunion?

I wrote the CFI at Sault about this and was told "We are in the process of updating out web-site for the Alumni" and was given the names of who was working on it. I will keep an eye out for it and will post here when it is back online.

Mil to Civ

I am looking for some general advice as to what alternatives are out there. Obviously considering the Westjets, AC, Cathay etc, but don't necessarily see my self as an airline guy. That being said I don't really know what else there is. I will be hitting my 20 years military in 16 months or so. Curr...
