Re: Question for trough (at the GFA)

Both warm and cold fronts lie in troughs. Note that all the weather systems shown on the GFA provided are upper disturbances. On GFA's a dashed purple line denotes either an upper trough, or an upper ridge. The upper trough shown on the GFA provided is known as a lee trough which usually hangs aroun...

Don't leave it outside year-round exposed to the elements. There is a big difference in the general condition of aircraft stored outside versu...

Re: SFU facial hair study

Beards and moustaches stink. In Medieval times, beards were thought to protect the wearer's face from abrasions during fights. Like the myth of grey hair, beards could be seen as an indicator of wisdom, regardless of the idiocy of the wearer. In later eras, moustaches were seen as abbreviated beards...

What is aerodynamic lift? A vertical suction caused by an area of low pressure created on the top of the wing at certain airspeeds. Signed: Ace McCool, Capt., D.E.I. Ret.

L39Guy said his L-39 has a stall speed of 89 knots. The stall speed of the CL-41/CT-114 is significantly slower. It is capable of a wide performance range, possessing a top speed at altitude of 795 kmh (429 kt) and a diving speed of 885 kmh (478 kt) against a relatively low stalling speed of 71 kts....

Speaking of "NATO brevity" I recall an RAF Ascot Hercules respond to my inquiries by saying "That's all charlie, all charlie" I responded by saying "Say again". He of course responded by repeating "That's all charlie, all charlie". He of course meant "That is all correct" The use of the phraseology ...

goingnowherefast said "How about a Tudor 2...?" Tudor? Again? It is a Tutor, as in "teacher". The Tutor was designed as a jet trainer. Refer to my post on page one (1) of this thread. In my 40-plus year career in aviation, I have seen this annoying error made by the popular media, printed in air sho...

Re: Snowbird replacement aircraft

Total thread drift, but there was indeed an aircraft named Tudor. A four-engine pressurised, taildragging airliner developed by AVRO. Based on the wing and undercarriage from the AVRO Lincoln bomber, the Tudor was produced from 1945 to 1949. Only 38 were produced, but with nine variants. BOAC cancel...

What percentage of travel from the U.S.A. to Europe is essential? I am guessing less than 20%. Modern digital connectivity can easily reduce air travel, especially for business. Many phone-in radio shows are now entertaining the question of "How have your travel plans been interrupted by the viral o...
