Re: Save Canadian Aviation March in Ottawa Oct 20th

Two retorts and both attributing the opinion to the poster, not the general public as it was written. Easy mistake to make when you are emotionally charged, but that’s how the world works. It’s based on confidence and fear. 12 months ago, people didn’t care about any of the dozens of communicable di...

Re: How The Heck Do You Get Into Tofino?

Personally if it was me, though, I’d take T609 to NAGLI at 5700 feet and then direct TEXEC at 5700 then descend (a more reasonable 400 ft/NM). The airspace to the south of TEXEC is protected for the shuttle at 3700 plus it’s over ocean. I don’t think any terrain will come up and bite you.

Re: How The Heck Do You Get Into Tofino?

 Slow to 140, put some drag out, and set 2000 FPM. Even if you’re a bit high at UDBIB you’ll be on profile well prior to the FAF. I remember one time after doing a local test flight “Centre.. request descent and direct EBKAD” “Uh.. you’re at FL200 and only 14 miles from EBKAD” “Hold my beer.”

Re: Porter Problems

By not being unionized can’t the company just hire everyone back at year 1 pay rates after 6 months of lay-off? That would be constructive dismissal. It might happen though if the pilots agreed to it to preserve their jobs. I don’t see how being union or non-union changes anything. In fact a union ...

Re: Lesson Learned, Unionize!!!

Just remember that the wastelands of aviation are littered with the airlines that unions broke. And plenty of card-carrying, dues-paying brothers and sisters from airlines that survived populate other industries after wage rollbacks, furloughs, lay-offs, or payouts ended their aviation careers. One...

Re: 172 down Hope BC ???

VFR cruising orders do not apply below 3000 AGL I always flew even altitudes. No IFR traffic anywhere below 10,000 feet and perhaps avoid the +500 footers when I was reversing course doing survey work or scenics. Lots of times you are constrained by terrain and cloud ceiling to an “inappropriate” al...

Re: 172 down Hope BC ???

It’s an AUTO at Hope, weather is often just fine in the area. Besides who says it was 1000 feet? The post On this thread, that says it cannot guarantee the accuracy of information? The weather wasn’t fine unless she crashed because she couldn’t fly a plane in perfectly good weather. The auto statio...

Re: 703 Piston Twin T/O Perf requirements

No. I don’t believe it’s a requirement until you’re above 5700 kg and it’s mandated by the AFM and the certification requirements, not the CARs specifically. So all the way up to a King Air 200 or so there are no legal requirements for balanced field or net takeoff flight path.. but above that for a...

Re: The personal log book thing.

I do carry my PPC card, elementary maintenance card, dangerous goods card... etc etc. Plus lots of calendar things are tracked by the company and a quick call to the CP or even a log in to Aerostudies will answer all of the other stuff pretty quickly if it came to it. I have my logbook on my phone a...

I suppose you didn't get a chance to read the entire CTA quote I provided, so I will just include this part of it: "For flight disruptions that are outside an airline’s control, the Canada Transportation Act and Air Passenger Protection Regulations only require that the airline ensure passengers ca...

Re: People just want their money back, forget credits.

This is the reason why nobody is flying. Not some rules that even I didn’t know about specifically until Gilles brought them up. Really thought about buying the whole family confirmed tickets to Japan next year. We’ve always wanted to go and passes just won’t work for us going there. Prices were unb...

Re: BETTER HURRY!! THEM PPCs BE EXPIRING!!

Caravan doesn't have buckets of power to fly though any problems. Caravans are under powered, and flying around northern Canada in the winter. It's a different animal. Anyway, I thought they decided requiring a PPC wasn't legal. The employer was obligated to do the required training. You mean where...

You're an idiot "Planebored"- Trash a company that's giving young pilots an opportunity and livelihood during the worst economic impact to the aviation sector in modern times. You were probably some boo-hoo, lazy prick that no one liked on the flightline and blamed all your problems on "management"...

Re: ASA CX3 flight computer or cellphone app?

Don’t bother with anything but an E6B. You’ll never use any flight computer in real life. The E6B gives you a more fundamental and graphical representation of your problems and is far less susceptible to finger problems or gross errors. Plus they are cheap. You can probably find one for free from an...
