Re: BAe 146 Runway Overrun
The RJ is a good short field aircraft but relies solely on wheel braking to stop. Back in the day when I was a baggage handler, the BA 146 was an unpopular type to work on(as compared to the 737 and the big jets). They called the BA 146 the Bad Attitude. Maybe it is from the pilots point of view as...

Re: BAe 146 Runway Overrun
Scuttlebutt is the runway end was essentially 100% icy but the airport didn't seem to know about it so it was not reported to the crew. I see it is a 6000' runway. I wonder if it is realistic to ask for a runway condition report when you are in an aircraft like this. Might be an possible idea for p...

No idea on the details here but with no reverse, you can't screw around. Even worse when you have forward thrust....... Re: Why haven't job sub sections been created??
I wouldn't expect a change. I suggested years ago not having the additional 705 airlines section the way it is with individual many small airlines as separate forums as they wouldn't get used, whereas, having them all together in one would have more traffic and therefore more posts. Nothing was done...

There have been several occasions when I visited the site when there were several similar Russian sounding names showing as also on the forum. Always together. Anybody else see that?

Re: B747 Rating ?
I think the SP is still around in PW. It's a way cool setup for engine testing. https://theaviationist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lg3.jpg I remember reading an article about GE testing their GE90 engine for the 777 on their own 747-200. It was extremely interesting about the VMCG considerations...

Why YVR was Built
In the late 1920s, after being invited to Vancouver, Charles Lindbergh said no, since Vancouver had "no fit field to land on." That statement, by one of the world's most famous people (some aviators were big celebrities 90 years ago), helped drive the creation of Vancouver's airport, which opened wi...

Re: A crash I witnessed early in my career and some lessons learned.
"A WORTHWHILE TRADE" Science, freedom, beauty, adventure: What more could you ask of life? Aviation combined all the elements I loved. There was science in each curve of an airfoil, in each angle between strut and wire, in the gap of a spark plug or the color of the exhaust flame. There was freedom ...

Re: A crash I witnessed early in my career and some lessons learned.
Found this written quite a few years ago....... If you are involved in aviation for any length of time, you will know some people who die. Fact of life. You look at a twisted blob of metal in which someone you know has just perished, and it messes with your mind. Crashes shake us up, make us wonder ...

Re: B747 Rating ?
Get your type rating on all of them. That’s not the issue. The issue is you’re looking to get it stamped in your blue booklet. The 747 has no value in Canada. A few years ago, I met a Canadian pilot who had recently left flying a 747-400 in the Middle East. He said he would soon be starting his new...

Re: Are the pilots lying to the accident investigators
It is interesting sometimes how when a report is made, there is no lying, but the writer may through omission, fail to mention how screwed up things really were. In other words, you may not be getting the full story. From ASRS..... An ERJ-175 flight crew describes a confusing and convoluted sequence...

I really don't need or want to know the name of the captain. How about we agree not to mention it. However, if there are other issues that could be applicable, perhaps we could know what they are.

Re: Flight Training - Criminal Record
Sorry guys, how you think it should work and how it actually works are two radically different things in this matter. You can be denied a RAIC for having a relative who is involved in the drug trade. Do I think it's fair? No, but that's the way it is. Lots of background on this site on this topic a...
