Re: How will Immediate roadside prohibition affect career as an airline pilot ?
This is worth what you paid for it, but I don't believe you have anything to worry about. The only times I'm aware of you'll come across an inquiry into your driver's abstract would be for your RAIC, and clearance for a gov't agency or regulated subcontractor. (Medevac, fire, gov't charters, etc) F...

700.27 (2) For the purpose of subsection (1), a flight crew member’s flight time includes (a) the flight time accumulated from other flight operations; and (b) the total flight time of a flight with an augmented flight crew. That's talking about the maximum flight hours in certain periods. That doe...

Re: Which sh!tty operator is advertising internationally?
I see some you are ignorant of conditions in other parts of the World. There are Pilots flying Q400 in Nigeria, India and Angola to give 3 examples. I've spent time in all 3 countries - in 2 of them crews weren't allowed out of the hotel! Pilots in these countries will jump at this opportunity imho...

Re: Which sh!tty operator is advertising internationally?
Most of those types don't make it past sim 2. When a candidate can't fly a normal departure, yet alone handle malfunctions, it becomes obvious that the logbook isn't accurate. Employment gets terminated on the grounds of "you can't fly airplanes". The hiring company only wastes their own time and s...

Location, DEC vs a few years of FO, lifestyle, company stability.
Those are all things that could factor in. At non unionized companies you might be able to negotiate a bit more regarding pay and schedule.

Great! Good luck!
Any idea what % the union is targeting? The article references the 24% raise in 4 years at Westjet. I doubt 24% would make much difference for the attrition at Encore?

Re: ICAO To Canadian CPL/IR conversion help
You should try to find a school willing to help you through this. It will be slightly more complicated for them than training a Canadian student, but it shouldn't be prohibitive. Note that you can write the CPL exam before you meet the license requirements. Likely even the flight test if need be. Ma...

Re: Failed Instructor Rating flight test. Any tips to do better?
My instructor taught me the following: if you encounter a headwind, slightly increase power and pitch down to speed up a bit; do opposite for tailwind. I hope you misunderstood! The whole point of teaching illusions is to make sure pilots * DON'T * do that -- especially slowing down for a t...

Ah yes of course. It all boils down to the -assumed- low time pilots screwing up the ATC traffic flow

Makes me wonder what they'll try next when they realize nobody applies internationally either.
Surely they won't have to increase salaries??

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
Management loves to say that but I know 3 guys who qualify under the 'blacklisting' but got into AC well before any of their senior Jazz friends did. Right on, if you can find out their Jazz DOH so we can advise the ppl keeping track of this that would be appreciated. First guy hired Spring 2019 an...

Lol. Does that mean that all their students fly 40 hours in actual IMC? Would be nice, but I highly doubt it....bwgilchrist wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2024 6:34 pm that simulated IFR time does not count against IFR time required for an IFR rating.

It should be its own category. Quite tricky to stay 'eclipse current' though to fly with pax.PostmasterGeneral wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:33 am But do you log it as a day or night landing?!?!?!?!

Re: T/O or Landing during Solar Eclipse
I think we'll need a new column in our logbooks "Time spent during solar eclipse". For safety, TC will then require all ATPL holders to have acquired at least 2 minutes of solar eclipse time.

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
The aircraft was diverted to another reserve due to low oil pressure. Work was done on it (in attempts) to rectify the problem and while it sat overnight in the cold she developed a hydraulic leak from an oleo seal. The oleo leak was fixed and required a gear swing to be signed off. At no point was...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
Yes, I remember this one. New captain, she had to ferry a plane back to Thompson due to gear issue. Lost an engine, and could have put gear up but elected not to (following the ferry permit). Allegedly exceeded limitations on the good engine. Lack of SOPs/CRM enroute. She came into YTH, wheels touc...
