Re: ALPA card drive starts today!

If the card drive at Encore has started, ALPA has already won. I'd wager 20 days to certification, only because we work so damn much! And why do we have our own forum now? We're in the process of UNITING our pilot group, not separating it. Probably because you work at Encore. Not Westjet. The money...

Re: Viking Layoffs

Sad news indeed I saw something recently about them looking to Calgary for something? It was perhaps too good http://calgaryherald.com/business/local-business/varcoe-viking-air-building-case-for-water-bomber-manufacturing-in-calgary I don't see production of the 415 in Calgary as a wise move. A pre...

Re: Encore ALPA vote??

There is a problem with Encore WAWCON? You would never know that talking to any Encore pilot. Things are perfect there from what I understand. Makes sense then that Encores most experienced pilots decide to quickly move over to the 737 for less than half their salary. I also understand that their C...

Re: Encore ALPA vote??

What gives here? What is taking these guys so long to follow suit? Not every pilot in Canada thinks that Unions are the be all, end all saviours of the profession. We are our own worst enemies some times. Agreed, if it were the 90's to just shy of present. The tide is changing. Company expansions a...

Encore ALPA vote??

What gives here? What is taking these guys so long to follow suit? I assumed with little mention of this that this was a no brainer, but I just found out that they have yet to even vote, let alone certify! Perhaps there is a greater disconnect between the groups. Common sense would dictate that if y...

Go all veg man. Start there, and give it 6 weeks to 3months, then assess.

Re: Float plane take off distances?

Lots of good tips here. Marine Charts (either old school paper or loaded on a GPS/phone) is an invaluable tool to study prior to heading off to an unfamiliar destination. Tide lines, shoals, sandbars etc are all availble for you to assess. Topo Charts will help you visualize/predict how the wind may...

Re: Demand for float drivers 2017?

WAWCON in Canada goes contrary to evolution, common sense, and inflation. Don't expect monumental changes in the pond world anytime soon. HA and others on the lower mainland only want "seasonal" workers these days.

Good luck.

Re: J'accuse

Dirty politics at its best. Who needs Trump or Clinton? Not that I'm affiliated with this operation, but certification would make sense. Why WPPA is being endlessly quoted is beyond me. It's a new player with a better understanding of the rules and talent for the craft that is helping out. ALPA. Shi...

budget airline cancel flights after every single one of its flight crew calls in sick

http://www.airwaysnew.com/budget-airline-cancel-flights-after-every-single-one-of-its-flight-crew-calls-in-sick An impromptu industrial action by staff on Tuifly threw plans for a new airline into disarray. Germany’s TuiGrop and Air Berlin were in talks about forming a new leisure airline. Air Berl...

Re: Jazz vs Encore

Jazz definitely trumps Encore for WAWCON. From what I understand, the fellas at Encore are in for a pay cut come January. Getting better?? If you want to call them "similar" companies, then just pick the one that will give you less of a pay cut when the time comes to "advance your career" to become ...

Re: Encore Direct Entry Captain YYZ

Why choose or wait for Encore as a DEC when AC is hiring? At this stage of the game, I've been told new hires could expect to transition to the 737 in 6 years. Then, in 6 years - bend over for that nice paycut as Encore doesn't have a bridged salary agreement with mainline. Apparently they're 2 sepe...

Re: 13 postings for over 20 float jobs in Jan alone!

I understand that even our national Chinese float operator, Harbour Air, is paying a little more for their so called Full Time "Seasonal" positions. Probably close to minimum wage for the cost of living in Vancouver.

Re: Encore - Not Worth It

From my understanding, Encore "could" be a good place to go - IF they get some kind of REAL ONE LIST with WestJet. I think the majority of issues stemming from this place is that the wages and conditions are a far cry from their 737 counterparts. A lot of carrot dangling and excellent marketing on W...

Re: Airbus C295W water bomber

Coulson should opt for the DASH 8 Q400-MR instead to compound the interest in providing not only a way better aircraft in terms of performance, but also keeping/creating jobs in BC/Canada. Cascade Aviation out of YXX tricks out the Q for a water bombing role. Even the French have purchased 2 of thes...
