Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Thankfully the tutor didn’t continue straight ahead, resulting in ejecting into the city. Ahhhh....? I can see how some amount of "zoom" has merit, following an EFATO, yes, trade reserve energy for altitude, and thinking time. That said, and even more relevant to airplanes which don't store energy ...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

I don't know off hand. However, the general concept is speed is life. Ignoring obstacle clearance IMC, the faster the better as it provides more energy - to climb, turn to low key, turn away from things etc using a moderate amount of g. Most jets climb relatively shallow to build speed. Many use AB...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Gannet167 Thank you for the responses I have a question. What is the standard climb rate for the Tutor on takeoff In the video and on the close to 100 times I’ve seen the snowbird shows , they appear to always do shallow climb outs Now I understand doing that in a show to keep thing close for the cr...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Would it no have been part of the SOP that the right aircraft clear of the aircraft in trouble and stay well clear ? It certainly appears that they did that In the midst of handling this entire event, what you're suggesting requires that 2 radio lead to coordinate staying clear. There's no time to ...

Very similar, but no neighbourhoods to worry about there. Also didn't seem to stall the aircraft during the turn.
An interesting video and it shows that he did not make it back to the runway either

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Nobody? So, nobody in your group of non-military friends with no formation experience. How about the dozen or so military or military-aware people here on AvCanada who all say this is SOP? Yes some , not all of the military guys have stated that I have requested someone post the SOP so that we may ...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Yes some , not all of the military guys have stated that I have requested someone post the SOP so that we may all see it but nobody has come forward with said SOP I doubt you'd find it written anywhere except possibly a basic formation briefing. But you can take it as fact from a former CF-18 pilot...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

In typical fashion, you're arguing just to argue. I'm stating some details that agree with the gentlemen on here that have military experience, and you're saying I can't say the sky is blue because I'm not a meteorologist. I never suggested any deep knowledge, weird opinions, or anything that's not...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

I don't understand this debate. It seems very basic to me. 1. A turnback following an engine failure at 200 feet is a bad idea. 2. A turnback following an engine failure at 1500 feet is not a bad idea. 3. A tutor has enough extra energy at 200 feet to zoom climb to 1500 following a failure. 4. See ...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Thats contrary to all flight training anyone I know has ever heard of This is called an argument from ignorance fallacy. Translates to: I can’t think of why it would be that way, therefore it can’t be that way. From an outsider perspective who has flown light, commuter and commercial airliners but ...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

I’m really not sure what airport you guys are looking at but Kamloops turning left after takeoff brought the Aircraft heading directly for a residential area Turning right would’ve brought the aircraft over a hilly area just before an industrial area It appears that the aircraft stalled and spun and...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

Fleet16, you need to wind your neck in. You’ve obviously never spent one day in our Air Force, your lack of even the most basic knowledge of how it’s done says it all. Your correct , I’ve never been in the RCAF. However, if you are a pilot , you know, that civilian or military most of the basic law...

With all due respect to the occupants , one of the #1 rules in aviation and one that has been there since the beginning , LAND STRAIGHT AHEAD if you loose the engine in take off. It’s pretty obvious that he tried to make it back and stall spun instead . This was a totally avoidable had he have foll...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

How have all these GENIUS's and arm chair flyers missed the most important part of that video. Everyone is saying he was trying to do a 180 to get back, pilot error, planes are old a garbage. First of all, they could have hit a bird. Which has brought down much new jets that's this. Second. Why did...
