Re: King Air PIC or Dash FO?

Depends. Is it a Dash at a real airline (Jazz in this case)? If it's still flying up north then I'd take the King Air PIC. If it was the option to go to a regional, then I'd take the Dash as the long term earnings are substantially higher and come with all the perks like de-ice, safety, interline b...

Re: Jazz vs Encore

I'm will go out on a limb and guess that Jazz has the same ban policy guidance as AC. If that is the case, flying the ILS on 09 in YFC they would only be good down to 3/4 or 4000 RVR. This is company imposed guidance I believe as one of the preventative measures that came out of the YHZ accident. Y...

As much as I'd love to be able to fly the CS, I agree. It's a mainline NB that should be flown at mainline rates. As an express pilot who would likely be able to hold it I agree. I can't wrap my head around the argument some guys have that we should fly it. No thanks. I'd rather get hired at mainli...

Re: Dash8 yaw damper engagement.

I flew from YVR to PDX with no yaw damp or A/P my first month of line indoc. Honestly couldn't tell. It wasn't that windy but I did hand bomb or the whole way. Classic or Q? I've flown the classic lots of times with no yaw damp. You only really notice on take off and landing and it gets pretty touchy

Re: Dash8 yaw damper engagement.

Depends on the model and weight. For example, on the -100 you have to have YD off if your weight is light and V1 is below 92 KIAS. (If I remember correctly. It has been a while since I flew the Dash) If you're light you can use 92 as v1 and leave it on. Basically it's never turned off unless it's a...

I don’t have any current info on pay or schedule but the info I’ve recently heard from some folks in YWG is they are upgrading f/o’s to left seat king air fast, like scary fast. They’ve also apparently been scooping some pilots up from other MB operators who haven’t been given the green light for u...

Re: Where is this so called shortage

If you're already working a random job while looking for a flying job, what's wrong with accepting a ramp job while still looking for a flying job, worst case scenario you don't find a direct entry flying job, at least you'll be in the running for an fo position wherever you're working the ramp?

Hello all, I was wondering how I would go about building meaningful connections to be able to land my first job in this industry? The problem is that I don’t know anyone in aviation and I am a nobody in the industry. I am just worried that once my training is completed, I won’t have any connections...

Re: Pass fees

Ok you must not be a commuter and/or rarely use your passes. Otherwise you would be feeling the pinch of pass travel being used as a revenue generating machine by mothercorp. Passes at WestJet, Transat and virtually all US carriers are a fraction of what they are in Canada I am a commuter and use p...

Re: Commuting questions

that worries me, if I go with Jazz or Porter how easy is it to get Halifax as my base? Jazz only has a flight attendant base left in YHZ. The pilot base closed a few years ago. If you go the day before, where do you sleep/rest/wait? You'd have to get a crash pad or pay for a hotel. YUL has some goo...

Re: Commuting questions

There are dozens of pilots at Jazz that commute to both YUL and YYZ from Halifax. Since most of those flights are operated by Jazz, you always have the jump over any AC pilot. Then if you're at AC, you have priority on seats in the back over Jazz. Lots of people make it work without an issue. Yhz-y...
