Re: Latest MEC Bulletin
ACPA MEC need to acknowledge that deferred employment (with a seniority number) needs to be part of Jazz flow (as it was in PML 1.0 This should never ever happen again. All it does is drive down wages at Jazz, which drives down wages at all the regionals in Canada. There has never been a solid case...
Re: Be Ready
You obviously missed or didn't read the CASM/RASM analysis and if you did either didn't understand it, or are not willing to present a counter-point based on alternative figures or interpretation of the figure I presented (which I provided the info to where that public info was from). The snipets o...

Re: Global Warming ?
The biggest issue with comparing todays temperature trends to previous years is the type of measurement used. We cannot go back in time to 20,000 BCE and apply geothermal satellite imagery. Instead we use ice cores, isotopes, and fossil records to predict the temperature. These types of measurements...

Great summary of the current issues affecting WestJet pilots, stay on target and don’t get distracted by a a private corporation claiming the cupboards are dry!

Re: WJ mainline cancelling GS due to lack of experienced applicants
4 years of flat pay won't be around much longer, and you can upgrade to left seat before that which gets rid of flat pay. The recent upgrades are guys who were on flat pay. 10 years of reserve? Never heard of that. Narrowbody FO you can expect 3-4 months of reserve currently, then a published sched...

Re: Upgrade times
Can someone explain to me (a noob) why upgrade times are so vastly different between Air Canada and Westjet? I would assume WestJet has much more turnover creating more room to upgrade so how can Air Canada be a couple years and Westjet be a decade? Because Air Canada is expanding and adding widebo...

Re: ALPA Petition
The new MEC seems to be hard at work approving new MOUs without Membership input. I'll try to be more clear, I am asking you a question here. You're saying the new MEC (very pro ALPA by the way) is approving MOUs without membership input. Can you help us out here? What MOUs are you talking about? T...

Re: Reserve pilot
Hi, I'm looking for a little insight on what life on reserve looks like. I keep reading that there is the ability to upgrade quickly on a NB at AC because the lifestyle that goes along with it is trash. I've been told that once you get in the left seat, expect to be a reserve pilot for at least 10 ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
When your country has the the world's cheapest pilots and the corps knows the tremendous labour cost advantage they have, I would hope they would expand Imagine sweat shops in China. That is pilots in this country. This has been a consistent strategy of Air Canada’s since a FOS (2012). The growth s...

Re: QOL for commuters
Whats the QOL like for AC pilots who commute? Any insight from anyone living in Calgary would be appreciated. And what are the upgrade times like? How many hours do you need to upgrade? There are a ton of Calgary commuters. AC travel passes are based on seniority, so if another pilot is trying to c...

Re: Overtime
Widebody generally has the highest paying per diems, it also seems like it’s best option for VO. As the overseas rest rules are more complicated it’s become more difficult to fill in the gaps with “legal” pilots. So the VO goes down the seniority list a little more. I wouldn’t plan on flat pay going...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
From the last equipment bid, the most junior captain spots, in order, were UL 220, UL 319, VR 37, YZ 220. Generally though I’d expect the 220 to remain the most junior. The 220 is not a bad place to sit for a while. If you look at the pay scales above, it’s not really that much less than the 737/32...

Re: 5,6,7 Pay
In another thread a 10 year NB CA says they make $245k with 1 OT trip. Where does the extra $40-45k come from beyond the pay table above? The pay rates are hourly and within the bidding system you can ask for more hours, all training events aren’t included either. The best rule of thumb at AC is ta...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
When I laid it all out on my spreadsheet the move to AC earned me an extra 6 million if I work all the way to my planned retirement age. Depending on how I worked the variables it was 6-8 million but like I said, I used the most conservative variables in my decision making. I think it’s worth notin...

Re: How long to hold yvr base
Next question for commuters. I'm currently at Jazz I get 12 days of a month. Apparently yyc base is closing. The only reason i held off applying to AC. But Once a junior AC pilot is off reserve on the NB how many days at home can he expect to have. If that pilot commuted from yyc. Junior block hold...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Actually, you can fly WB CA for NB CA pay at about 6-7 years seniority (767F). You can today, but 767F went down to seniority 3000. So someone new coming in today that could be 10 years away when looking at retirements. Good point though, it’s an option to fly big metal for those that are intereste...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
ACPA has a seniority projection estimator up and running now. It’s showing retirements around 125 a year. With 4800 pilots on the last equipment bid and the most junior WB captain position at 1500, pilots should be estimating 30 years before WB captain at the most junior position. Now that’s a very...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Very good reasoning. May I ask if it was a 20 year seniority reset from another good canadian 705? Yes, I should clarify however, I haven't been here for 20 years, but that's approx how long it could take before the schedule and seniority at AC would crossover with the trajectory here. Even if it's...

Re: Career Prospects Age 30-35
After all the hiring that transpired between 2017-2020, can a pilot hired aged 30-35 expect to see a comfortable widebody position with decent a seniority during their career? What about narrowbody? Is it reasonable to anticipate significant fleet growth over the next 30 years — enough to render th...
