Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

When you see lower numbers of retirements this year, it is due to quite a few pulling the plug before age 65. Most seem to go at 62 or 63. Some stay to the end. Staying beyond 65 would mean a seat change and no one has done that so far. ............. Fly til You die! Look at how many reach age 65 ea...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

There are a few going 737 CA positions at 3 years, A320 at 2 years and EMB at 1 year, Do not plan on those times holding into the future. You might get lucky and hold a Captain position after a year or two but especially for planning cash flow during the first 4 years at AC, do not plan on it. As th...

Re: Everyday at WJ : union busting

Well written! The fact is that you now have a Union. IF they get full support from the Pilots, they will get a much better deal than if the Management feels they can divide and destroy pilot unity. You may have no background in labor and even hate the thought of a Union. The truth is ; you now have ...

Our new V.P. told me last week that his plans are to move to year round training. How soon that happens, I do not know.

FlyingSquirrelSucker , have you figured out how to program your phone with the ALPA hotline number? P.S. You seem to suffer from the same grammar challenges and your friend above. It's "you're", not "your". I'm not sure what the big deal is dude. 15 years ago I accepted the job offer at WJ. I go to...

On a lighter note. Youtube.com ..... cartoon..... " Airline and pilot negotiation." Management will always try and play you. Stick together and BE prepared to back up your Union.

"Living the dream". lego pilot, pt. I, II and III are good for a laugh as well.

Just talked to a G/S Instructor. 40 pilots started on the 3rd and another 40 will start before the end of April. No idea of the composition of the new classes.

Re: Swoop Blacklist

The method Ryanair uses is well known. Make an outlandish claim like taking out all the seats and installing hold straps from the ceiling! Pack more people on the plane. It gets them two weeks of free advertising as all the news networks pick up the story.

Still works, does it not!!!!!

Re: WJ Scab List

What they are doing is either legal, or it isn't. If it is, you have no business whatsoever to try to publicly shame people for doing something you don't agree with. If it is illegal, you can let the authorities deal with it, or sue them yourself if you feel that strongly about it and see what happ...

Re: Union at Sky

Ladies and Gents, You need a Union. It will take at least 4 committed pilots to try and form one. To start a Union will cause those doing the recruitment considerable risk of retribution from your employer. They (the employer) almost never go quietly into the night while the pilots organize. Sometim...

Re: AC union not happy.......

The reports missed their big issue. Lots of kids with clipboards ( not F/A.s) critiquing the F/A.s and Incharges on flights, writing up every minor error in service. Try having some kid look over your shoulder for 14 hours while serving 450 passengers! Then the axe comes out and some Incharges demot...

Re: Air Canada Medical

There is no age limit. That would be age discrimination! The days of get hired by age 28 or never are long gone.

Be aware that on an AC medical they will be checking for illegal substances and if they find them they will inform the MOT as required by law. A word to the wise.

Ladies and Gents. I am not at Westjet. I have been in an Association for 39 years. Thoughts from the sidelines. Your need for a Union is two fold. Protection from an Employer who is not always completely fair in its dealings AND protection from your fellow pilot who might sell you out for personal g...

Re: What is the Average Time to Upgrade from Express to Air Canada Mainline?

Some pilots currently go Captain after about 18 to 24 Months. EMB and A320. No one can tell you how long that will last. As the EMB fades out and the Bombardier come in I see many of the F/Os already here going Captain. Do not plan on any Captain positions being available in the first 2-3 or even 4 ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

You may be correct on the ratio changing a lot in the near future! The one sure thing is that any given Monday morning the program can change overnight. We have seen many radical changes in how it works. The 90s and early 2000`s saw overnight and frequent changes. A new PMA may bring some form of st...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Just an observation or two for those trying to come over. Many changes in the hiring methods over the last 35 years. Those being hired, as of late, seem to now be about 50% from the Regional carriers and the rest, off the street. Military, WJ, Transat, Encore, Sunwing, Corporate etc, etc. Almost all...

Re: Leave of Absence

When there has been slow times in the past , the Company has offered leaves of up to three years. I can not see any probability of any leaves being offered over the next 10 years due to over 1000 retirements. It would take a major down turn in the economy for AC to end up with a surplus offering lea...
