Re: Airline Evacuation Training.

I think more people would be able to make it out alive in real life if the overhead bins were equipped with a locking device that only releases the hatches when the pilot hits a switch on the shutdown checklist.

Re: Working Abroad is the Only Way I can Justify A Career as a Pilot.

I'm always happy to hear someone give up early. Aviation is one of those jobs that are sort of a passion project, like sailing or woodworking, or the military. I leave it to the baying hyenas of this forum to debate wether it deserves that status anymore. I have always had a salary that covers a mod...

Oh, the humanity.

My thoughts and prayers are with the affected drone manufacturers.

Re: Air France pilots suspended after cockpit brawl.

Here is a French article with a small amount of extra detail: The co-pilot refused to comply with an instruction from the captain A disagreement ensued, resulting in an exchange of inappropriate gestures the two men ended up grabbing each other by the collars while remaining in their seats The event...

Meatservo, I think you're missing my point. I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't fly in your days off. After all, I tend not too fly in days off as my time is more valuable than money. I'm just saying that you're in a better negotiating position if the company makes more money. I don't think...

What a shame. An irreplaceable aircraft, and a man's life; all completely avoidable.

Re: Quiet Quitting.

The thing is that you likely won't get a proper raise working yourself to death either. It's one of the causes of the 'movement'. And in aviation most pilots are stuck in pay scales anyway, so no need to work yourself to death there either. True for us flying for large carriers, but not everyone is...

Re: Air France pilots suspended after cockpit brawl.

I like the accompanying photograph. The A320 looks like it's lurking in the grass, waiting to see if it's safe to come out. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Some people are incredibly difficult to get along with, and "self discipline" is in noticeably short supply in society in general ...

Re: Hero or Zero

I think it's been pretty well established by now that free will isn't really a thing; the past doesn't exist and what is going to happen is definitely the thing that's going to happen. If we had maths that were sufficiently sophisticated, we could plot the trajectory of every particle in the univers...

I hope charges are laid. And by that I mean I'd pay a nighttime visit to the marina and plant some scuttling charges in the boat.

Re: Quiet Quitting.

“Office Space” Yes, this is the greatest movie ever. I'm kind of glad the practice of "Not Being a Sucker" finally has a name. I know it could be called "doing your job" or whatever, but it's a concept that needs some wider recognition in aviation, especially the sub-tier-3 companies. And there's a...

Re: The Career of an AME

There's another thread here where pilots are discussing the wages and working conditions in America compared to here in Canada. The news seems to be that pay is almost double for the same experience level and endorsements, etc. in America.

What is it like for AMEs? Is it the same scenario?

Re: Why aren't Canadian pilots going on strike?

I changed my mind about what I was going to say here. I'll just say that regular pay rises to take into account inflation should be mandatory. Otherwise employers are just getting away with effectively paying us less every year.

Re: Focus on Recovery

On several occasions I have seen a licensed commercial pilot, during initial type-specific training, bounce or porpoise and then let go of the controls and yell "you've got it!!" at the apogee of the bounce. Once, embarrassingly, I had just finished training a new pilot and signed them off on the co...

That was well-written; you're right. I can certainly empathize with the people going to the site and finding little bits of debris with a personal connection. I've done that before, and it's cathartic. Sort of. Definitely has a certain unforgettable emotional flavour that's for sure. I carried aroun...

I'm sure you meant to write "SCRAPING sounds", but in this case "scrapping sounds" is probably also appropriate.

Re: The Future of Airline Seating?

I actually like it. I am very tall, and the guy in front of me puts his seat back, which I suppose is his right, and now my knees are pressing against the seat. And the tray table is now weirdly close to me so I have to eat my meal like a T-rex, with my wrists all bent because I don't want to stick ...

Re: Another Pilotless Flight

Back when I was a young adult, radio control gear was expensive, and most of us built free-flight models out of balsa wood frames with tissue paper skin shrunk on with nitrocellulose lacquer. They could be powered by a twisted rubber band, or for the bigger ones, a little one-cylinder engine running...
