Re: Union Incompetence- ALPA

If an employer is required to hire a laid off pilot, is it reasonable to ask that pilot to resign from their current job from which they were on furlough? Obviously this would be to prevent them from immediately hopping back when recalled while leaving their new employer short staffed and out the co...

Re: Toronto Star says so...

Near the bottom of the article, the part that stands out to me is the difference in taxes between Canada and the US. Of all the threats to our industry, this has to be near the top. After all the squabbles between management and employees for what's left over, the largest portion of a ticket's total...

Re: Foreign Pilots: expect this in the near future

Mbav8r +1, 100% Trey thinks pilots individually or collectively haven't tried to talk to their companies, or that companies consulted pilots before they went ahead with outlandish changes that pilots never in 1000 years would have believed would ever have been approved, that there is an open door po...

Re: Foreign Pilots: expect this in the near future

I dont know if the writing is on the wall, but it certainly is a very nice, well written, scenario. It is just to bad it is little shy on facts, other than the author's perceptions of what will happen, maybe,, sorta, kinda... I suppose it will rally the troups once again...We must act quickly befor...

Re: Sunwing/Canjet fleet and foreign pilots winter 2012-2013

I think 1-1 can still work as long as it doesn't get ruined by shenanigans. It's fair, more net Canadian jobs in every profession, serves the public... I think this is the fair middle ground that Gilles and many other moderate folks on here are advocating amidst all the noise. Maybe it's good that w...

Re: Sunwing/Canjet fleet and foreign pilots winter 2012-2013

Guys, you're late to the party,Gilles already answered that question: http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=85173&p=786185&hilit=Money#p786185 I'm employed as a pilot for Air Transat. That's what they pay me for, that is all I do for them. What I do outside of flying, I do it for myself...

Re: On-Line poll about the foreign pilot issue

euroview I believe Mr. Hudicourt is as concerned with the overall numbers as you are. There is a lot of distraction on these threads taking away from his stated aim of 1 to 1 reciprocity. If the British pilots are reciprocating 1 to 1, then maybe it's another group that doesn't reciprocate at all, o...

Re: Is it me or are airfares getting expensive?

Fares themselves are fine - it's the taxes that are extreme. Airline travel is considered infrastructure in the US and luxury in Canada and is taxed accordingly. Subsidize what you want more of and over tax what you want to kill. You can't blame consumers for going south - or do you buy nothing what...

Re: Air Transat interview - Potential lay off in the fall???

So WG needs less pilots in the summer and AT needs less in the fall. Overlap and training time ensures that no pilot could work for both. It's hard to criticize the business models of the Survivors of the Charter World, but if AT took on some of their own narrow body flying and WG took over their cu...

Re: Sunwing Adds a New Twist on Foreign Pilots

Well explained, just say'n. I have a couple of questions maybe you (or anyone) could clarify: Is a reciprocating agreement the same as an LMO? For instance we bring in Mexican migrant farm workers but do we send any workers ever to Mexico? Are all of the incoming pilot groups paid as much as Sunwing...

Re: In you opinion, is it all worth it? Piloting?

Most pilots make more than doctors though, on an hour to hour basis. 2nd year WJA F/O makes $60/hr, while a family practitioner makes $58/hr. A 2nd year WJA capt. makes $134/hr, while a neurosurgeon makes $132/hr. Take your hourly pilot wage and divide by 2. That's a good approximation of what you'...

Re: Cargojet

A simple "thank you" would have done for outsiders being concerned with what was going on in your company. Maybe publicizing CJ's internal problems was enough pressure to get management to do the right thing.
