Re: WJ mainline cancelling GS due to lack of experienced applicants
Partakes in a WJ promotional video and then quits for AC a few weeks later. That’s pretty funny actually. well, like 40 weeks later (videos were filmed last spring). But still, should send messages to management when great folks are leaving for AC. But they seem to just care about the net numbers. ...

Re: WJ mainline cancelling GS due to lack of experienced applicants
CBC reported today the WJ cancelled their summer 2023 scheduled flights from here in Halifax to Dublin, Glasgow, London Gatwick and Paris. Those were popular destinations as I understand, it’s unfortunate and perhaps it’s due to constraints on their(WJ) overall system. The article further stated th...

Re: WestJet New Direction
There seems to be some sort of belief that owning a plane is better than leasing. Like if you own your home you're better off than someone renting. This really isn't the case, especially where the market is so volatile. It's not like a house where the value tends to appreciate. I remember an interes...

Re: HIMS and mental health in Canadian aviation
The US and Transport Canada treat mental health issues in pilots very differently. As mental health issues, especially mild depression and general anxiety are better understood, talked about and treated in most everyday life, Transport Canada seems to be in the 1980s in its treatment of mental healt...

Re: MOA
What I don't understand is why the lump sum payments would in the event of a work stoppage. Are you referring to the duration of a work stoppage or indefinitely? Ah, got it. In Canada, a work stoppage can only occur if the union and the company have followed the process set out in the Canada Labour...

Re: MOA
The pay raise is not temporary. It goes until a new collective agreement is ratified. Which, is like ALL current terms and conditions. I'll rephrase, the monthly lump sum payment will continue until one of three things happen: 1- The Pilots Strike, 2- The Company Locks the Pilots Out, or 3- A New C...

Re: MOA
I don't have a vote in this, but I know what it would be - NO. It's always easier to take big risks when you're not the one taking the big risk. This is true, but so is the fact this is a temporary pay raise. I assume you work at WEN, so I can say we both know the type of people we are dealing with...

Re: MOA
2. The company may try to argue that a lump sum payment is not a change of total compensation, but the fact that EVERY pilot will be receiving extra money on their pay cheques from an MOA talking specifically about compensation, an arbitrator would have to do some mental gymnastics to conclude that...

What did you decide to do?westernbird wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 1:21 pm Good Day Fellow Forum users,
I have a question to put out into the avcanada universe.
I have been offered a spot in an upcoming Air Canada pit course.
Thanks

Re: MOA
I no longer have a vote on this. But, as an outside observer with a lot of previous inside knowledge: It seems to me that the risk in voting No is that the Company doesn't come back to the table to try and offer something better. Considering how stubborn they've been about Swoop, the ACM, retention ...

So effective first year rates? FO: $56,532 $46,332 ($51.48 * 900) + $10,200 ($850 * 12) CA: $90,624 $80,424 (89.36 * 900) + $10,200 ($850 * 12) roughly a 30% pay jump? What's the quality of life like at the moment? Also to note, 2023 rates are $1 - $1.50 higher for FOs and $1.50 to $2 more for Capt...

Re: Air Canada Ultimatum
First of all, congrats! This is a good problem to have. While I second most of what has been said about the Cons of Corporate Flying and the Pros of Airline (AC) in particular, the question is "what would it take to stay with the current gig?" The way I see it, based on the limited info one can prov...

Re: A 10 year WJ FO just went to AC
I think the bigger news is that the Encore MEC chair (with 6-7 years at the company), who took to flow to mainline Nov 1, is now a new hire at AC just a few days later. This in addition to the vice chair leaving the company earlier this year. Just shows that even those with the most inside info hav...

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as critical as the next guy about some of the recent decisions that have been made (perhaps more so!). A couple things to note though. With regard to the Cargo 737s, the Executive that ostensibly made the decisions regarding the selection of the aircraft, type and locati...

You don't think using a 1900C loophole to get 1900 D's in and out of trail and Bella and using 1900 C fuel burns to do it is Sketchy? I flew there one summer on contract, I've had their dispatch hand me a no alternate IFR flight plan with 1900C fuel burns to boot, and had to say, I'm not allowed to...

Re: PASCO Postings
My feeling is that if you identify as a man, you already only have a 50/50 chance of being hired there as a pilot. Beyond that, coastal time. They do some rather sketchy mountain flying on the coast. This time of year you have fog, rain, turbulence, ice, they do VFR work, no alternate IFR, up and d...

Re: No vote full of regret
I have no skin in this game, but I do seem to recall that back in 2005 Air Canada ordered 787s contingent upon the pilots agreeing to some reduced pay rates or concessions. ACPA didn't agree and AC made a big announcement about how they had to cancel the 787 order. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar...

For what it's worth, I did not single engine taxi for pretty much my last 12 months at Encore. That wasn't to spite the company, it was to provide a good comfortable environment to MY passengers. Even at the best of times being a passenger in a Q isn't the most comfortable experience and I always fo...

Re: Mainline hiring
Mind blown! So to get a livable wage in yyz or yvr you either take a 20% pay cut to pay bills or don’t pay bills at all with the 2000 a month paycheck. I hate to say it but flair and lynx pay more and you don’t have to sacrifice 20% of your salary to live. Ingenious scam by the company! Notwithstan...
