Re: You must be joking... Avcanada without ad blocker is unusable
Every once in a while I have to add some of the new ads to the block list but overall I don't think the site has thrown up any *more* ads than it used to. I rarely see one. A combination of a blocker and a dns filter keeps the trash out.

Re: How difficult is it to become an RCAF pilot?
If you are considering this dysfunctional institution be prepared to wait 5 years to just get your wings. Friend is waiting over 2.5years to start Ph2 in MJ from his Ph1. What do you do during that time? Are you just base staff at that point? Do you do *any* flying to maintain the proficiency from ...

Yep. A Citation flying from Spain to Germany found that out the hard way this weekend as well.

Re: Is Vape Smoke Obvious
The smell alone might tell you it's a vape, because nobody seems to want a vape that tastes like a cigarette. But the visual effect is that you see smoke. Do you decide it's not a fire because it smells like cotton candy?

Re: Snowbird accident 😢
I think that before that starting point, I would be looking for any airplane flight manual which describes a procedure to turn back following an EFATO. All I have read state to land ahead, making only the minor turns necessary to avoid hazards. As the normal and emergency procedures sections of a f...

Re: Snowbird accident 😢
Dangerous advice for a trainee maneuvering close to the ground……..Don’t watch your airspeed and try to use the stall warning as a minimum speed indicator. IF your stall warning system is functioning properly, this is actually the *best* advice for someone with limited experience... Keep your eyes o...

Re: Snowbird accident 😢
This guy is trying to turn on the edge of a stall. He has a lot more experience and recency in practicing than you. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7-S_NM--evM Keep some extra margin. It will save you from a slight error on input or a wind gust. Remember, that guy also was making 60+ degree banked tu...

Re: Lost Power but did a Go-Around
He flubbed the downwind landing and ended up too far down the runway to stop, and then his routine training kicked in with its programmed response. Too far down the runway to stop? Go around. I'm sure the moment he started climbing again he realized he shouldn't have done that. It's like having an e...

Re: Snowbird accident 😢
Isn’t there a parallel with an EFATO and a power loss in an air-race nearly at ground level? At higher altitudes, who cares if you zoom, you probably don’t need any extra height. Altitude above you and runway behind you are both useless in an engine failure situation. You may not need the extra hei...

Re: Co-pilot jumps out of the aircraft while on approach during an emergency landing...
I think this guy fell out assessing the damage done by the hard landing. A lot of us thought this may be the case, despite the pilot's initial brief statement... Now the later report seems to give more details that suggest it was indeed accurate. Two things now seem likely to me... One is concussio...

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA
I don't feel this is the best advice. Taking YYJ as an example, my SOP is to land straight ahead under 500ft (about 435ft AGL), or turn back above 500ft. I just tried a few examples in FSX today, and at 400ft it's very easy to land and stop just beyond the end of the runway on the grass. At 500ft y...

Re: Best Headset 2022
You wouldn't go wrong with a David Clark 10-13.4. Probably the best of the non-ANR off-the-shelf headsets. I still use mine regularly, 30 years after I bought it, but mostly it's what my passengers wear. Replaced the ear seals and head pad once in that time. It *will* last you most of your flying ca...

Re: ADSB requirements come to GA in Canada 2023/2026
All airspace is classified by Transport Canada in the DASH, not as Nav Canada often implies by them. Technically, yes. Practically, TC has abdicated almost all decisions on airspace and management thereof to NavCanada. Unfortunately there seems to be zero interest by Nav Canada to go with local gro...

Re: ADSB requirements come to GA in Canada 2023/2026
That's only if you have ADS-B-in on top of the soon to be mandated ADS-B out, which would cast even more money. My point is the mandated ADS-B out only benefits NAV CANADA with respect to general aviation. An ADS-B IN system can be had for ~$200 plus the cell phone you already carry in your pocket....

Re: ADSB requirements come to GA in Canada 2023/2026
Given the very large and very remote areas of Canada that need coverage, doesn’t that make a ground based system rather more expensive than the US? Depends... The homebrewed system running in Ontario would suggest it can be done economically. If the systems were built in volume I can't help but thi...

I use it from within FltPlanGo. Download the sections you need, and they're there when you need them.
Note that they haven't added *all* of the small airports.
