Re: 49 Ship formation fly-by

Andrew Phillips was 2 hangars down from he, and he's dead now, after that RV formation flight. To be completely accurate, he's dead after flying an airplane beyond Vne with unbalanced control surfaces. The fact that he did it while flying formation is beside the point. More to the point, yes, one R...

Re: 49 Ship formation fly-by

It's hilarious that you think that formation can be taught during a weekend course It's hilarious that you assume a weekend course is all these guys had before they started. I don't understand why you would assume that. The two Pitts' in that video start out nicely line abreast, but on the downline...

Re: 49 Ship formation fly-by

Reminds me. I had never picked up a guitar before, and last weekend I took a course where I learned a few chords and how to strum. I guess you needed something to pass the time while you were on sabbatical from AvCanada? :) I don't understand why you can't comprehend that 49 people could learn to c...

Good thing the 49 pilots in the original story that started this thread were all FAST-qualified as formation pilots.

Been using them in flight for years. Why would they affect the plane differently during takeoff/landing? I'm still amazed it took so long for this to happen.

The caveat on that might be that the insurance may not cover a foreign pilot flying it in foreign airspace. No insurance means you can't fly it even if you have a Canadian license and the owner's permission...

Re: Tail Dragger sign off

FWIW, my insurance company required that I have a type signoff by a qualified instructor before they would insure me in the RV-6. I had a qualified instructor (CPL owner of same model/type) give me dual for 5 hours, and then sign my logbook with words to the effect that he had instructed me in all a...

Re: Aviation website for Cdn pilots to figure distances

If you go to my fuel website at www.100ll.ca, you can enter the ident for any canadian airport in the box at the top. If you then click "LIST" next to it, you'll get a list of every airport in Canada, and the distance to it from the reference airport you entered in the box. Click on the "distance" h...

Re: 49 Ship formation fly-by

Apparently I missed some excitement. If it was something I said that offended the Colonel, then I do apologize. It was not my intent to raise a ruckus, I was just surprised at the Colonel's response to the video, and curious why this would bother him in the same way videos of his flying seem to both...

Scary as hell...Best of British Luck. You know, I rather enjoy most of your posts, and I even learn something from time to time. But for someone who rails incessantly against bureaucrats harshing his mellow when it comes to aerobatics, I find this response to be rather surprising. You sound just li...

Re: Reason #528 to leave your flight school immediately

There is NO good reason for a PPL student to spend any time in a simulator as official instructional time. It won't save any significant amount of cost on the training, and doesn't add anything to a good flight with a good instructor. During my PPL I visited the sim for 15 minutes, when're weather c...

So what's the big deal about changing underwriters on the insurance program? AIG is now offering policies in Canada, and they weren't last time the contracts were all negotiated. Am I missing something? If so, please elaborate.

The third and final time it quit was on the short grass strip which is now closed at Langley Airport. Getting off-topic, but the Grass runway at Langley is not closed. They shut down 07-25 a few years ago, but only for a few months while they paved an east-west runway next to it. Both have been ope...
