Re: Crashed on Takeoff
Interesting about losing the ground effect because of the of the corn. I wasn’t there, but it was apparently witnessed by at least one TSB investigator (or TC inspector? You know how people get mixed up on details). Stating corn killed ground effect is pretty bold for a preliminary, more likely the...

Re: What Was Aviation Like Back then?
A couple of years ago I was going to an airport that actually had one and the guy I was mentoring wanted to give it a try instead of going to the IF for the LPV approach. I told him to ask for the straight LPV in for the downwind runway as the tail wind was only 5 kts. This would save over 20 track...

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I just spent 3 weeks on the road at events in Canada that were well attended by Americans. I lost track of how many times we were asked what it takes to be allowed to move to Canada.

Re: ALPA signing new agreements with training bonds
Which companies have a bond these days. Do folks here even know the difference between a bond (paid up front) and a training agreement (pay nothing if you fulfill your side of the agreement, usually with regards to a minimum length of service). Of those that I know of that insist on training agreeme...

Re: Logging Co-Pilot time on Single Crew Aircrafts
My info is 10+ yrs old. I had to do two ppc rides. First was by myself and gave me single pilot ppc. Second was with an fo and authorized me for pic during 2 pilot operations. In subsequent years the inspector combined the rides by having the fo become a passenger after two approaches and a simulate...

Could you guys just take a break, for even a couple of days? I'm just... wow. They have an agenda, and dont give a shit about our friends burning out, it's an opportunity to push an agenda, so they will push it. Its at times of distress like this when folks show their true colors, and this thread h...

Apparently that airplane had other issues in Oshkosh, read some comments about it having lost part of the canopy there.Tubthumper wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 7:28 am ….correction to my post title, this was not at Oshkosh, but Michigan.

Re: Comox WestJet + RCAF
Yes you are right ultimately the WestJet Captain can be held responsible but it is not reasonable in my mind that the RCAF parked a large aircraft on a civil ramp that has daily 737 traffic in such a way that an airplane following the approved taxiway marking will hit it. Except this is CFB Comox, ...

Re: Comox WestJet + RCAF
Whoever parked the Herc may get a slap on the wrist (assuming they parked inappropriately), but ultimately it’s the pilots responsibility not to hit anything. The 737 appears to be on the yellow line, the herc is in the yellow circle. But I'm curious now, is it parked on a part of the ramp marked f...

Re: A lifetime of learning when to fly....
I think part of the problem is that some of these businessmen are already fully loaded with their job and family. I have plenty of respect for Elon Musk for investing but I would be have heightened concern going with him in a Bonanza in marginal conditions……too many other things on his mind. What i...

Re: Too much in a hurry to wait a little bit for wake turbulence separation?
The 206 turned left, the 737 turned right. The crosswind is a red herring, it's going to drift the wake turbulence, but also both airplanes. Apparently the 206 didn't hit the turbulence from the jet. Either they were shithouse lucky, or knew what they were doing. My money would be on the latter, fee...

Re: Canadian Registered Ted Smith Aerostar Down in Florida
If simulated zero thrust isn’t the same as feathered, it isn’t simulated zero thrust. Case in point.. set 50% thrust on inoperative engine.. will it perform better? Then set 40%. 30%. At some point the performance will be identical. Giving the same climb rate and same thrust asymmetry That’s zero t...

Re: How to build PIC/CX while an FO
Is there any chance for you to upgrade to captain on the 704 machine without an ATPL? Not sure if that would be the case considering you said 704/705. Depending on what you operate if it’s a single pilot AC and solely operated under 704 you do not need an ATPL to act as PIC, just 1200 hours. Maybe ...

Re: Bell 412 severs bambi bucket
In the northern Alberta flames, a 412 severed a bambi bucket 20' below another chopper . Why on earth is the province not requiring ADS-B on all of these planes? It only costs $1,000, plus a cigarette charger and a suction cup antenna. I'm curious, where do you get an adsb unit that is does in and ...

Re: FAA Accepts Reliable Robotics' Certification Plans for Autonomous Flight Control System
The only vehicles that are currently fully autonomous (with a standby support mechanics/crew) are rail vehicles in certain applications. Even these are far from fully autonomous. Note that these are linear vehicles which should be by far the easiest to automate, and their failure modes are extremel...

Nothing will change until we get a conservative govt. Just my 2 cents. Careful what you wish for. It'll be interesting to see the reactions here should this government fall before the AC boys and girls get into contract negotiations, and the conservatives are in charge at that time. Welcome to Harp...

Re: Self-flying plane in one-year deal with feds
Exactly. Musk has been predicting self-driving every year for as long as Tesla has been around, and it's still in "Beta". Tesla is WAY behind in the race to autonomous vehicles. Waymo has had fully atomated taxis on the road in Pheonix for quite some time. The difference is. Tesla is all about maki...
