Re: 38 years old and never kissed a girl (Trajically Hip..;)
is 40 years old to late to start a career as a pilot in Canada? I just got my instructor's license. I do want to make it as a captain either for an airline (Westjet, Transat, Canjet, etc) or Captain on a corporate jet Which option would I have a better chance? Your thoughts please. Thank you. Proba...

Re: Availability of Quality Aerobatic Training
Aerobatic rides and training also available in gliders at yorksoaring.com .Near Arthur, Ontario.
A real thrill and even more fun than in power aircraft. We use a K21 and a DG500 for most aerobatic flights but also a SW 2-32 for spin training. Don't knock it til you try it at least once!

Re: Air Canada Pool
I can not say for sure going forward but for the last 15 years, a three or four year Aviation Diploma or a University degree were treated equally acceptable. I doubt if that has changed. Lots of Saulte , Seneca, and others in the mix for the last 40 years. A one year Aviation program is not currentl...

Re: Distance from airport
The majority airline types live about a one hour drive from YYZ. Barrie is referred to as terminal 4. The main reason for about 80 km out of town is house prices and most Airlines want you within an hour drive if you are on reserve. Kitchener, Guelph Hamilton are also common. Still many commute from...

Any guess as to the time frame for the hearings on the remaining 100? The years without a final resolution just keep slipping away. Twenty years on the A.O. lawsuit! It is hard to believe just how long the process can drag on without a final decision!

Re: DC-8
Above 164 KTs the rudder was restricted to about 10% of travel to not over stress the rear fuselage. There was strong speculation as the aircraft slowed that the restricting valve did not open as it should have. Even though the pilots put in full rudder pedal deflection the rudder itself only gave t...

Re: George Neal passing
You can read about George at http://www.cahf.ca Look under the letter " N " of it's members. He was one of the most accomplished pilots that Canada has ever produced. The testing of the beaver, otter, twin otter, caribou, buffalo and Dash 7 were but a few of his endless accomplishments. He also buil...

Re: Flydubai crash....Fatigue reports?
Look at Qatar! How many pilots have quit in the last 18 months.....Hundreds. Do they follow a N.A. or European model of CRM culture?... No. How many fired last year....near 100. This is the way many of these carriers operate. Too many days on the road, DH for free, it all adds up to fatigue and poor...

Re: Aviation Degree vs. University Degree
To answer the original posters question! Air Canada will credit you with EQUAL points on your interview for either a Degree or Aviation diploma. There is no advantage getting hired with one over the other. A Degree will carry you further in life if you fall out of Aviation as a Career. The main issu...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I doubt there will be any deliberate poaching. Some WJ and Encore pilots will most likely be hired. This opening will allow Corporate, Military and others to get a chance to come to AC. There may be as many as a few hundred hired off the street over the next dozen years. The one given is that the hi...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Well I know a friend that got hired at AC a few years ago with 3000hrs total, 900PIC , 1200hrs turbine... No university degree or post secondary education. It's what ticks their boxes. In this case I am sure there is more to the story! AC still answers to the Fed's on minority and diversity hiring....

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Correct. The only pilots that will be joining AC with only a High School education are from the Regional pilot move up. AC has,for many years, given high preference to those with University or an Aviation diploma. Military pilots are the one exception. Post secondary education has been the norm for ...

Thanks for the reply and explanation.
The two subjects seemed to relate more directly to the"WestJet" thread so I did not expect the issues to be in the " General discussion" thread.

Westjet Service is Bad
Hello, Just a small experiment! I have noticed that any negative posts about WJ get removed, often quite quickly. Two WJ threads (not flattering) were taken down in the last week, even though they were featured in news articles. However, bashing AC seems to cause no upset to the moderators unless th...

Re: More negtive press for WJ.....
The same issues are in play at AC with the EMB and A320 flying in particular. Too many days at work, ugly layovers and long, long days. The Canadian flight and Duty regs are just about the worst in the World. Two pilots allowed to fly from Toronto to Athens are okay for Canada. Nothing like these ru...

Re: Air Canada Pool
Hello Most of you have missed the reasons AC did this Completely!!! Back in CCAA , AC was cut up into pieces to Max the profit to our former owner THE THREE HEADED DOG from Hell. Mr. Rovinescu took the AC regionals (Jazz) which was of little value at that time...and wait for it...got hundreds of mil...

Gents, As has been clearly stated, Age discrimination is no longer allowed! As history has shown, as time goes on, different types of discrimination have been challenged from slavery to gender to, now... ageism. When new laws create change to address this discrimination; usually there is the expecta...

Re: Turbulent times for WJ ahead?
Hello All, Times and circumstances ebb and flow, year after year and Decade after Decade! AC had some very ruff times with some issues that had little or no effect on WJ. A perfect example was 9/11. It shut WJ down just a few days as there was almost no exposure to US destinations at the time. AC , ...
