Re: Lightspeed Zulu 3 or David Clark One X
Buy the one which is most comfortable! When you wear it all day, that is most important. I have two Lightspeeds; Zulu and PFX. Bought the Zulu when i was flying an aircraft that was pain threshold noisy with a passive headset. Since worn in a noisy turboprop working all day six days a week; glad I b...

Re: Age Discrimination
Comes in many forms. Retired by age and was hired overseas; job didn't materialise because "Ex Pats" became a political issue. Sent lots of resumes; very little response. Apparently thought I had too much experience, wouldn't be happy. Followed up one resume with a phone call. Was asked if I would b...

Re: Self maint. for purchased homebuilt
I have seen lots of terrible work by AME's and lots of terrible work by Amateurs; also things done poorly by factories. I have also seen "Amateur" work that was far better than factory or (most) AME's. An "Amateur" is working for nothing; may spend more time to get a better result. Some AME"s are ex...

Dress Code
The Social Media Storm over United's "Passholder Dress Policy" provides an opportunity for Air Canada to jump ahead and stop treating Passholders like children. If clothing is acceptable for the paying public, it should be acceptable for Passholders. I am the first to agree that some people dress in...

Re: New security threat ?
PAssing through Frankfurt Airport in December, I was subjected to an unusually thorough screening. They were most interested in all electronics, including power supplies and cables. I was advised that my observation was correct; there was some intelligence of some kind about these devices; thus the ...

Re: Do you carry your logbook with you in flight?
So; when Transport Canada Ramp Checks you; how do you prove "Currency"? If you are carrying passengers, and cannot prove the required number of takeoffs/landings etc, you could be in a world of hurt. CAR's requires you to be able to prove "Currency". If you are flying in another country and are Ramp...

Regarding the seats; TOO NARROW!! Just spent seven hours in one getting to know my neighbours shoulders and elbow; MOST Unpleasant!! AC clearly bought the seats without any thought of comfort; thank you Rovinescu! Too narrow for even an normal person; hopefully one will never sit beside a large pers...

Re: Lake Buccaneer LA 4 200
I have owned an LA4-180 for twenty years; about 700 hours on type. If you keep ahead of maintenance, annuals should not be that expensive; two days labour. If you find the right facility, you can do all the grunt work and save a lot. A decent shop will prefer you to become familiar with the airplane...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
From time to time, someone says that no FP60 members opposed age 60 till it came their turn. When Ross Stevenson was opposing Mandatory Retirement back in the day, I spoke up and said Mandatory Retirement made no sense, particularly in a Competency based job. Mandatory Retirement was simply wrong; I...

ICAO is part of the UN. The UN has a very strict policy against any form of discrimination, including Age Discrimination. This is laid out in ST/SGB/2008/5 The mere mention of Age is "Prohibited Conduct". Despite this, the UN continues to discriminate by Age in its' employment practices, a situation...

At less than $1 a share ACPA should just buy a majority and then tell CR to hit the streets. There are better Airline Execs than CR, better at Operations and Employee relations. (think Hollis Harris) Given the recent track record at ACPA, such talents aren't likely to be found in the ACPA offices. ...

Re: After the medical?
Some employers resent those who better themselves by leaving for a better job. Thus, they will never give a good reference for someone leaving. Perhaps they weren't good enough to get that job themselves, or consider someone who leaves disloyal. An employer with more character would be glad to see s...

Re: Air Canada sending Embraer 175/190s to Express
So I asked one of the Sky Regional "Retired" guys about flying for lower wages while collecting a Pension from AC. He said he would be quite happy to forgo the Pension, leave Sky Regional and return to Air Canada. He pointed out that he never asked to leave Air Canada or start collecting a Pension H...

Today's Globe And Mail reports that Air Canada squeezed AVEOS out of business by deferring work for two months. Thus AC can avoid the contractual committment to provide business to AVEOS. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/squeezed-by-air-canada-aircraft-repair-firm-aveos-shuts-down/a...

Contract Reality
Todays' ACPA Bulletin lays out the facts pretty clearly. In one week, the Contract is void. Two things are important; Scope and Pension. As the Bulletin points out, AC is trying to eliminate Scope completely. Company proposals will effectively gut the Mainline and destroy the Pension. These two thin...

Re: AC Mgmt Eyes Offshore Airline
The RJ got AC into all kinds of markets that were too small for the larger equipment. As well, frequency builds traffic. If you provide 100 seats once a day, you will get less business than if you provide 50 seats twice a day. Depending on feed from other carriers is not reliable, unless you go the ...

Re: Only 120 or more please..
Scope will not protect you; it is not working! As long as ACPA accepts flying going outside; any flying, CR can whipsaw the Pilot Group. This started when AC first set up the Connectors and Mainline Pilots got laid off. Think new thoughts bring all the flying back into the Mainline; AC Pilots can fl...
