Re: Rescue choppers grounded another three years

Just a silly question....what about a fleet of 4 or 5 Ospreys instead of a dozen helicopters? They have a faster response so they can cover a wider radius, yet have the capability to hover and VTOL. Might even be more cost effective for operating costs.... According to Wiki, the U.S. budgeted almos...

Re: Rescue choppers grounded another three years

I work up there a lot less then I used to now that HTSC has the contract. It's not the lack of concern I have.... just that placing a SAR machine every 300 miles across the yop isn't realistic now is it? I can see Inuvik and Iqaluit getting something. Don't get me wrong it'd be nice. [/quote] [/quo...

Re: Rescue choppers grounded another three years

Inuvik, Cambridge Bay, Hall Beach, Iqaluit , GooseBay. There's 5 bases and a 6th machine floating about or spare in Goose or Inuvik. I've worked out of all these bases when CHL had the contract. It's the Arctic...you have to assume the risk when operating up there to a degree. The proposed dedicate...

Re: Rescue choppers grounded another three years

Contract hasn't been awarded yet....so don't know who it will be. This has just started happening in the last 3-4 months. We there are other North Warning system helicopters up there. Like 6 of them. And they've been operating up there for decades. I was mentioning lack of NVG, winches, etc as exam...

Re: How do you submitt an application to Transport Canada?

Excellent post OFD!!! Although there are some "bad apples" in every bunch, the majority of CAI's I have dealt with have been excellent. During PPC's, once you prove you are competent, (almost without exception) they have tried to expand my knowledge by pointing out better ways of handling emergencie...

Re: Rescue choppers grounded another three years

Get a fleet of UH Blackhawks like the USCG ffs.... things are redundant and can take a good beating :) And station them so that there response time is a few hours instead of days....our program makes no sense, there's like three cormorant bases that cover our entire country? Yikes... There is a civ...

Thanks for your advise Hedley. I think this is a perfect way to end this thread, you have pretty much summed it all up. You sound like a true professional pilot, I for one am proud to have you represent us....................

Re: Negativity, Sourness and General Douchebagery

Who said I left aviation Lost Lake? I just said I don't fly floats anymore. If I did leave I wouldn't have become so jaded. Anyways your point is duly noted. At least porn would serve some sort of purpose. Beechnut isn't there a fire somewhere you put out somewhere. I mean really isn't it time you w...

First off Lost Lake I apologize for attacking your spelling skills, it was a personal attack and is exactly what I think should be stopped on this forum. I tried to delete it, apparently you are not alone with not being an expert at posting. Second, I stand by my original post. If you would have act...

Re: Negativity, Sourness and General Douchebagery

Interesting comment All Sides. I've been around aviation for a while now. If I see a serious question on here regarding aviation, I am only too happy to offer what ever advise I can. However, when someone comes on here and says he has a problem pissing his pants in a stressful situation and what can...

Re: Negativity, Sourness and General Douchebagery

200hr Wonder, Unfortunately there are pilots on here that have nothing better to do than slam every post other pilots make. It is their way of validating themselves. They seem to think that they know everything about flying and the industry and their opinion is the only opinion that counts. They als...

With your experience and the present economy whoever will offer you a job...................... there are a lot of pilots out there that don't have the luxury of asking that question that would blow your resume out of the water.

Re: Any skydivers on here?

I did a tandem last fall. I think the the only thing that could top a free fall is a space shuttle, won't hold out for that one. I would like to do the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) course. I visited the drop zone in Pitt Meadows and the one in Abbotsford. I am leaning towards the course in Abbotsford...
