Re: Lack of Crew?

Looking at the posting for First Officers - Halifax Base. I was under the impression YHZ was a senior base and that most new FO were YTZ based for a couple years. Does anyone know if YHZ base is going to junior FO these days? Is it mostly 3-4 days pairings for YHZ based? YHZ is still fairly senior,...

Re: Increased MLB

This seems like desperately grasping at straws for work. YOW - MLB is 1059nm in a straight line and I doubt they will get anything near a direct routing. BBD's website even lists max range as 1100nm which is for the versions with a MTOW of 67 400 and I'm pretty sure the Porter ones are much lower t...

Re: Interview Questions

Porter seems to have a pretty heavy emphasis on hiring woman. I've seen 5000 hour male pilots with an ATPL PFO'd in favour of 1000 hour woman instructors/pilots (CPL only) who have never seen the inside of a cloud. Good Luck to all those who apply/applied. I'm not sure where you're getting your sta...

Re: Thinking about stepping away from the game for a bit

Is an LOA possible? As far as getting back into the game after a leave - what about talking to pilot friends who are mothers and have had to stop flying for the end of their pregnancy plus mat leave? Many have had no issues coming back to flying (either with the same company or moving on to another)...

Re: New Zealand Dash Ad

8 days off a month is due to their flight/duty time regs, assuming they're similar to Australia's. QantasLink Dash pilots also only get 8 days off a month, as their rest rules make it impossible to get the min credit in less days than that.

Re: Type Training Outside Canada

Being physically present not required; just make sure you send the completed form, with copies of all your supporting documents together. And payment (cheque... not sure if they do other methods too these days). The licensing office address will be on the TC website somewhere.

Re: Type Training Outside Canada

I did this several years ago with a type rating I earned on my FAA ATPL. You will need to submit the application for a rating form to TC, along with a cheque (used to be $35, I think, not sure what it is now). I believe that I had to submit proof of training as well, which was easy since I did the T...

Re: Schedule and PIC under Supervision

Grey_Wolf, how does the upgrade work for "Destination Porter" Candidates? If I am successful in the program and I am hired at 1000 hours TT with no MPIC, is there a plan in place to allow these pilots to gain MPIC within the company through a PICUS program in the future, or will a "Destination Port...

Mid to late 40s, approximately 2 to 2.5 years ago. Don't let age dissuade you from applying.

Re: Time to upgrade

Upgrades are seniority based. It's averaging around the 2 to 2.5 yr mark at the YTZ base at the moment. sure about that? Yeah, my guess was pretty close, actually. With a calculator and the seniority list now in hand: the average for the last class was 2.56 yrs. The most junior candidates in that c...

Re: Porters version of a cadet program

Is it possible to ASK for the YTZ base, if you live in Toronto? All new hires start at YTZ unless there is a specific opening at YHZ or YOW that has not been filled internally (which is rare); however, if you are not specifically asked in the interview what your preferred base is, the "any question...

Thanks
Within the past 2-3 years there have been several new hires in their mid to late 40s (perhaps older...) As long as you meet the hiring minimums, have some varied experience and (most importantly) bring with you a good attitude... apply!

Calls have gone out for the Sept 5 class. Interviews are ongoing; the class after that is scheduled for Oct 3. Unsure after that.

Re: Q400 Headset

We have Bose A20s in our Qs; some of my friends bring their own Clarity Aloft. I've used a Sennheiser (I think it's the HMEC 26) on occasion and the noise protection isn't really sufficient in the Q, wouldn't recommend those.

Re: University Degree Still Worth It?

My last thought would be to consider some of the aviation colleges that have agreements with Jazz, Georgian or Porter. A number of these airlines have announced partnerships with flight schools and/or colleges to hire a certain number of graduates. To be fully clear, the intent of Porter's program ...

Re: What Company operating North of Ontario Quebec Single pi

From what you posted on another forum, Oleg, it appears you have 1500h, 1300 of which are right seat Airbus, and you're a Canadian but now overseas. The bad news is, to these companies listed above, you basically the same as 200h newbies since your Airbus experience has no relevance to single pilot ...
