Re: "charter" vs " scheduled charter" difference?
From a business standpoint, charter vs. scheduled means selling the use of an aircraft to someone vs. selling seats. I've flown scheduled charter, we did not sell seats but we operated on a scheduled route. We simply provided the aircraft to the customer to fill the seats as they saw fit. We got pai...

Re: Porter selling off its terminal.
$500 million is the value of the business, not just the assets. Not only would someone be buying the infrastructure, but they would be getting the fee tagged onto each passenger coming through the terminal (2-3 million pax per year), money from advertising, money from rent from PD and SKV, rent from...

I am surprised this is allowed with passengers, based on the restrictions I've seen on various STCs for major external modifications.

Re: Working at Seneca, Mount Royal, Flight Safety
If you have experience on a type that FSI teaches, they are probably your best bet for money and long term employment. Most guys I know there are very happy. Downside is you'll be flying a simulator and a classroom, however there is nothing wrong with that some want to keep flying in the real airpla...

Re: Silly Questions about the DHC-1 -> DHC-8 Series Names
For the DHC-7 I've heard about "Moose". Several other guys who used to work at Time Air also called it "Porcupine" because they were always getting hit or walking into something when working around the planes. The DHC-7 is sometimes referred to as the "Quad Otter". Afterall, its original design was...

As BPF suggests, Cedres is likely your best bet, or for a longer jaunt there is also Cornwall farther down highway 20/401. CYHU would be terrible to get to from the CYUL side of the island, especially in rush hour.

Re: Can you work more than one job in the same airline?
I think there are certainly opportunities out there if you look for them. These days you can definitely you math skills in designing programs for use in flight deck or operational software, or work related to what the flying business is doing. An example from my own experience is in airborne survey,...

1000 hours is what they would like you to have (instructor's have got on with less). They are interviewing a lot these days so might as well! Why would instructors get on with less? It has been my experience in hiring at several different companies that 1000 hour instructors are about the bottom of...

So you never had to pay any money to work at VAL? Correct. No money ever transferred from me to VAL. Even if the money doesn't go to voyageur's pocket and in escrow? Correct. No money was ever transferred from me to VAL, or to an escrow. You never took out a loan that VAL would pay for inuding inte...

It's been many years, but back when I did mine I walked my application into the Ottawa office and walked out with a signed temporary. Do they not do this anymore?

They are living in Moncton. There's a phenomenon of pilots originating from down east who do all they can to return. There's not a whole lot of work for pilots out east, so when they get a job there, they tend to stay long term.

Re: Voyageur Interview
Plenty of topics have covered this previous. When they called you did they specifically mention overseas or was it both divisions 703 and 704/705? They only have 703 and 705, and the only 703 is the medivac King Air in New Brunswick. It'd be nearly impossible to get into the Moncton positions as th...

QA is a TC mandated position. Not sure what the big deal is here? Lumping multiple jobs on a CP or DFO is not the right answer, especially when it comes to QA.

Re: Interviews
Porter already does a pre-interview via video recording your answers to HR type questions before they fly you to Toronto for an in person interview. They don't replace the in person interview, just do some screening ahead of time. This being said I haven't heard of anyone doing the video interview a...
