Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team
Sims are highly structured and time compressed scripts. There's no time or money for proficiency flying in the Sim.Even if there were, twice a year isn't enough to be proficient.

Re: Updated MCAS ‘Safe’ Says MAX Technical Team
By that logic, so many ridiculous inferences can be drawn. Perhaps only the capt should be allowed to fly takeoff and landings, after all, passengers expect the best. No line indoc with passengers, can't have less experienced guys at the controls when passengers are paying for the highest levels of ...

Re: ILS question
Fair enough, I didn't realize that flying an ILS won't keep you legal on the minimums on some loc only approaches. If I were flying a loc only, I'd still fly it CDA. Sometimes CDA data isn't shown on the plate it's typically because a CDA approach would be steeper than 3 degrees; would you calculat...

Re: ILS question
We've gone down a rabbit hole. The OP asked about circling, I think the answer is clear above. My point was, if you have a working glide slope, why wouldn't you use it while tracking the localizer (fly an ILS)? Fair enough, I didn't realize that flying an ILS won't keep you legal on the minimums on ...

Re: ILS question
Even if I could only fly a circling approach using the LOC, I'd still use the glide slope and make it a constant descent "LOC only". Rule #1: don't hit anything. If you're following something published on an approach, that's been assessed for obstacle clearance, you're good.flying an ILS won't viola...

Re: ILS question
Your clearance would be for approach X, circling to rwy Y. If you were only cleared the ILS 24, then you're supposed to land on that runway. You can fly any approach with published circling minimums and circle to another runway, as long as you get that clearance and follow any circling restrictions ...

Re: Bose ProFlight Series 2 or A20?
Avee makes a nice adaptor for Bose QC 25 and 35, as well as the (much better) Sony noise cancelling headset. By the time you buy the headset and the kit, it's close to $1k Cnd for uflymike or Avee. The David Clark DC Pro-X2 is another worth looking at. Some find it more comfortable, ANR works well f...

Re: A Field Guide to NOTAMs
There needs to be a means of filtering notams so only relevant ones for a particular flight are displayed. We will never convince the lawyers and bureaucrats to stop publishing BS on a whim. For them it's pure CYA and pass along the responsibility and liability to pilots. That way during an investig...

Re: Military license to CPL
There is a provision in the CARS to convert RCAF wings qualification directly to a commercial licence. I believe you only need to write a 60 question exam covering the differences in the CF flying orders and the civilian CARS to cover the knowledge aspect. The skill side (including any solo time) is...

Re: New NOTAM website - old site withdrawn
I believe all the Canadian Notams can be accessed from the Defence Internet Notam Service site. The format is slightly different but gets the job done.

Re: Snowbird 5 Ejected in Atlanta
In my opinion the snow birds are out dated and the equipement is boring and outdated as well. Either shut them down or update them. They seem to have taken on this mystical Canadian thing like Tim Hortons. How many social media generation people actually know who Tim Horton was. A successful ejecti...

Re: Joining the RCAF at 37 years old
To be a pilot in the RCAF, you have to be an officer. We can debate the merits of the policy, but officers need to have at least at university undergraduate education. There are sone who don't but they're the exception and they are supposed to attain it. A RCAF pilot does not simply fly. In fact, it...

Re: Air Canada has to pay $15,000 to a couple because the word 'lift' was not engraved on seatbelts in French
I believe a seat belt has to be built to certification design requirements. The design of aviation safety equipment, down to the size, design and placement of placards and the word "lift" are likely airworthiness design items, beyond the scope of language laws and not up to an airline. I would bet t...

Re: 35 people injured on AC flight.
But, the shoulder harness does nothing to keep you safe unless you're decelerating. It then holds your upper torso from tilting forward and prevents hitting your head on the glareshield, like a shoulder belt of a car helps when you have a head on collision. The lap belt is what keeps you in the seat...

Re: 35 people injured on AC flight.
Shoulder belts are great for rapid deceleration and for ejection, conecting you to your parachute. The lap belt and 5th connection between your legs are what will hold you in your seat in turbulence. I also have never known anyone to wear shoulder belts above 10k unless we were flying an ejection se...

Re: Commuting In/Out of Uniform & CATSA
Did the butter knife have an airline logo on it? The same butter knife that will be handed out to the entire business class once the door is closed and locked? Geez! Imagine if someone brought that on board, the danger, dear God save us. I too have had such weaponry in my fingertips, although if I n...
