Re: Ten year deal

If you were trying to plan what to do with perhaps 30 years or more remaining in your career, which airline gives ultimate stability in Canada? (I know that doesn't really exist in aviation). Even with expansion and contraction, In Canada, AC really is the only option for the career variety, interna...

Re: Wide body with no former jet-time

All I can think of is the poster was referring to perhaps; certain aspects of the Q. I for example found doing V1 cuts more challenging in the Q because things happen can happen quicky…vs the 37 or 320. But as for the flying itself, well a Q is more like a big King Air

Re: Meanwhile in 'Merica

Pilots have realized that they are all free agents and therefore will generally move to the more lucrative setting while individually factoring in issues such as QOL and job security. Free agents? In a very limited way if that. The fact that we are all beholden to a seniority system (at the airline...

Re: How old is to old to go to AC?

My intent was mostly that I'm agreeing, that it is too personal a question. An understanding partner is required as well, but such is the airline life in general. However, a 'wait and see' approach doesn't help in my opinion. If you have any inkling that you want to go, don't delay it. I hardly thin...

It's not so black and white... the longer you wait the worse your QoL will be. Waiting just means there are that many more above you. Sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith.

I would just make sure you go in with a backup plan that won't cause you undue stress or financial hardship.

Re: Are Air Canada pilots the lowest paid in the world?

I said this in another thread and it doesn't get mentioned as often as others, but reality is, Air Canada is likely the only airline in this country which will likely never cease to exist, as history has showcased... I would suspect that other then speculation of the (hopefully) new pay raise comin...

Re: First and second Year Pay

I like that perspective... but it's funny how many captains seem to think the opposite was the benefit. Under DB, you could sit RP your entire career and then go WB Capt for the last 5 years (theoretically, not sure if anyone ever did that). On the flipside, now there's pressure to take a crappy NB ...

Re: Recruiting Video

I'm pretty sick of other employee groups and management telling pilots that "they make too much". What a bunch of complete garbage. Last I checked if you lost your medical, your entire career was blown. No Human Rights Tribunal for disabled pilots will be convened. As Woke as we all are, no one wil...

Re: Flair reciprocal jumpseat

I would never make a career decision based on a 10 year earning alone of course... At flair after 10 years, good chance you could be starting over at some point along the way. I would place at WJ an obviously lower chance of that happening.

Shutting down an entire multi-billion dollar business to show those pilots who is in charge, while not beyond the realm of the possible, would be one of the dumbest decisions in the history of Canadian business. I prefer to think that the emotional maturity of those in charge exceed that of the ave...

When they started in 1996. They were the Lynx/Flair of the day but at least there were equity incentives.

Re: WJ mainline cancelling GS due to lack of experienced applicants

Why leave before the contract gets finalized? Seems like quite a risk losing all those years of seniority. WestJet has their issues but I’ve learned throughout my career the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Wasn’t long ago AC was garbage and WestJet was the place to be. Could easily cy...

Only what I’ve been told.. but Apparently they were short even before covid. And another 8-900 is for the new duty rules. Add in some retirements, plus jazz repatriation …but I can’t explain the full amount… seems like a lot to me as well.
