Re: Partial Engine Failure in a Piston Twin

I am recalling some long ago lessons, but IIRC, one of the concerns if a Navajo loses partial power , it could be a turbo charger failure. And than can lead, very very fast, to a burned through spar and possible fuel tank ignition. I think Flight Safety recommended Shutting down the engine as a prec...

Re: Airlines need to shut down to survive

It is a bit complicated to explain in a short post. Generally, while Quebec can swing vote, the BQ and Trudeau personally, are strong there. Ontario offers the possibility of a majority govt without the need to garner a lot of quebec seats if the NDP, Bloc, and liberals split the seats there. In ter...

Re: Mental Health 2. Processing an accident

From your description it sounds like this is what we refer to as an accident. You are ok (at least physically). Airplanes can be fixed or replaced. As meatservo posted. Go easy on yourself. It is unfortunate in this time of social media, that there are those who do not want to wait to find out the f...

Re: Airlines need to shut down to survive

Mr.O’Toole speaks very good French. Maybe not as good as Mr A’tool, but certainly better than Chretien’s English. Quebec is not a conservative target. Ontario is. And its filled with lots of people who will sell their votes as long as the present govt keeps giving them money. After all, the rich wil...

Re: Airlines need to shut down to survive

That is rather troubling, but I think there was a lot of fat there to trim.particularity Pearson which has been gouging every place it can for years. The party is over, and raising departure fees, parking fees, tenant rents will be counterproductive in getting going again

Re: Airlines need to shut down to survive

From a strategic standpoint, if one considers that the market is going to shrink drastically for a few years, it might be that one company, or maybe two, want their competitors to fail. A bigger percentage of a smaller market for them. That actually may be the way it will naturally go, as there may ...

Re: how long

I was hesitant to dip my toe in the water on this thread drift, but to me, the use of dude, bud, bro are a form of familiarity that pushes the boundaries if you do not know someone well. And for us old farts, that kind of familiarity can be perceived as disrespectful. I do get it. The younger genera...

Re: Westwind

I wonder if TSB considered black hole affect rather than only icing. Their focus seemed a bit tunnel like, or maybe they looked at it and felt it was not necessary to discuss. Maybe it was an opportunity for TSB to showcase icing dangers and companies rather weak prevention methods, I understand bot...

You know Garp, I am not one who is adverse to baiting Rockie for sport, but you really are coming across as an utter fool. We are laughing at you, nor with you. Your stories hold very little credibility. And the personal attacks. I think maybe its time you stopped trying to waste everybody else's ti...

Re: Non Aviation Employers Don't Respect Pilot Experience

F4$. And others, I sympathize with your personal situations. I have been there, a couple of times. It seems to be part of an aviation career, though I dont suppose the flight colleges ever mention it. My point was that employers are generally a bit skittish about hiring someone who will walk out as ...

Re: Non Aviation Employers Don't Respect Pilot Experience

That article mentions the concern of recall. I think that concern was marginalized by the author. Read Flying for Dollars post. His interest in working for that employer ended instantly when he got the recall. What if it had been a few weeks later after the employer had given him a job, and he had s...

Re: how long

Rockie asked.. “I've asked this before as well and still no one has ventured to answer it, if it goes to a single pilot who is going to train them? “ That is definitely a challenge. Particularly, as no where in the world right now is any plane being flown single pilot. I , for one, admit that I neve...

Well, it is August

So much for those who predicted six months.

Over 1/2 the people thought 2 years or less.

Re: What's in the briefings?

I was always under the impression that The prep ground instruction and a preflight briefing were two distinct things. What bpf described was what I thought a preflight briefing was. It takes about 15 minutes pre flight, and another 20:post flight, each lesson to go over the flight and get prepared f...

Re: how long

Rockie. Instead of dazzling us with your rather uninformed perspective, why don’t you take a few moments and google and read the article which describes what the TBM autoland will actually do. A bit more than what you are purporting in your self described wisdom. And this is an $85K fix to a small G...

Re: how long

I just read today in Flying that for $85k USD, you can have an autoland system installed in a TBM. New ones come with it standard. But yep. There is no evolution in automation. Pilots will never be replaced. These systems on a small GA are there to enhance the pilot experience, not takeover when a p...

Re: how long

So you ask a question, that is unanswerable, and from that you can conclude exactly what? If you read the posts here you might get the impression that every flight is saved by a super pilot, just do’in their job. After 45 years in the business, i can estimate just like you, and say...it aint so when...

Re: how long

I am old enough to remember when the 747s arrived, and everyone was saying it would end the 747s career if two ever collided. Well, they did. And about 50 years later still flying. Will full automation, or remotely piloted aircraft have accidents? Of course they will. But in the grand scheme of thin...
