Re: Tower closure predictions?
Fantastic news. Really, none of the control towers or FSS stations should have been put up for an LOS during these times. I'm glad to hear that, certainly for now, they will remain open. That must be a huge relief for all the staff involved. 100% first good new in a while. Next up....cancel all tho...

Re: Nav Canada Training After Covid
There's a Terminal course starting in Vancouver in April, and a handful of trainees that haven't been axed at various other units still going. As for Generic IFR/VFR courses or complex tower courses, I would be surprised if anything happens again in 2021. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see anyth...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
While 900 employees have been laid off, including some union members, with other staff having to job-share just to stay employed and taking pay cuts and having their pensions changed on them, CATCA employees received a 3% pay increase last year (should have been July as per the CA but was initially...

Re: How much air travel is out there right now?
Aviation is essential. Pilots are essential. ATC are essential. Hells bells, Aviation is a privilege not a right. ( breathing, eating and drinking is a right) .. is there any role the the Canadian Military could not fill in lieu on Commerical air travel? The virus would get under control as opposed...

Re: Newbie questions regarding IFR vs VFR?
Some towers have limited hours and others operate 24/7/365. It has nothing to do with night time just what the traffic levels are and what service is required at a specific airport.

Re: Any Canadian ATC?
Transport just added a salary of $30,000 to the 1 year training time to get into ATC. Before it was unpaid. I could take a 1 year pay cut to that and now I'm seriously considering making the switch. I would really like to hear stories about your experiences applying, going through training, working...

Re: STAR profiles & ATC
I can't remember what happens anywhere else in Canada but in YVR they give you each altitude clearance as you get past each constrained waypoint. I assumed there was a reason for this and that's why NavCanada's short lived Descend Via STAR phraseology was the exact opposite of the rest of the world...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
This is new ground for everyone in ATC. Layoffs have been part of society for everyone except some professions including ATC until now. Why I still hold out hope that things will turn around and any layoffs will be short term in the meantime we ALL can learn from this experience should we face it a...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
The way they announced the layoffs is pretty shameful: -Not giving a @#$! about the CATCA seniority list -Basically telling us terminal controllers are worth more The way CATCA has handled this ? I'm pretty sad to see a controller throwing dirt at CATCA. Not wanting to save jobs when people are rea...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
I think he meant unfortunate for anyone who was “first out”. Since we don’t know what (if anything) the company proposed to CATCA, I find it hard to call the approach shameful. I happen to know that they did propose a deal of this sort. Also I've heard it from reliable sources within the union and ...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
Not sure how last one out first one back is unfortunate. It's just logical. What's unfortunate is that there are layoffs in the first place and that our union never gave us a chance to vote on proposed salary freezes/cuts to save these jobs. Shame on CATCA. I think he meant unfortunate for anyone w...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
I'm wondering here did the airlines layoff pilots the correct way (respecting the seniority) ? Or are you like us wondering if your name will come out of the sorting hat of layoffs? Or are the companies not giving a @#$! about your seniority and pretending that laying off people will actually make ...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
If all the LOS reviews come back and end up shutting down towers, I think any surplus controllers will get displaced to short-staffed towers. Just not sure how the company can afford to pay for relocation, and take the cost/risk of possibly having a controller CT'd if they don't make it. And with t...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
49 IFR controllers served noticed. Shoot I know it is majorly selfish but being laid off trainee in the first wave of lat offs makes me more and more scared as more get laid off. Last ones out I assume first ones back, certainly fully licensed controllers before a trainee. This is such a friggin me...

Re: ATC Layoffs?
Well, now we have the finale answer.... Some IFR (aerea control center) controllers will be laid off 6 month from now. Don't know hom many though. More than a hundred from what I heard. Number is about right. A lot of units are affected. Gander is the hardest hit. They will deploy controllers to cu...
