Re: The Northwest Company

We should all start a pool on how long the next guy or girl will last. I'll take November. Anyone else in on the action? Their training budget must be astronomical. I'm sure they spend as much training 3-4 copilots per year as they would on training 1 full time G150 pilot who would never leave the c...

Re: Hiring Pool

I'm also part way through. Does anyone have any idea when they will finish processing the current applicants? Is everything frozen until after the August bid? When I interviewed, they said they were interviewing for May, June, and July ground schools. Are the July ground schools filled up? I have a ...

If there are any out there, I'm sure there are a few of us interested in getting some info.

Re: 2011 Ground Schools

I also got the email stating that there were no sim dates available but when there is, they want me to come in. Anyone out there with more info? Have they started calling anyone yet? Any rumours of the hiring going on beyond July?

Re: Differences training between similar types vs initial co

I have a friend at Calm Air who was hired for the ATR-42. He recently did a differences course and sim for the ATR-72. If I remember correctly, he said it was 1/2 day ground school and a 2 hour sim ride (1 hour him, 1 hour the other guy). I know that's 705 and likely not covered under what you are q...

Re: Image Air is hiring

I honestly don't know. I saw it on Pilot Career Centre. I know a ton of people at the company including the owners and management. I can say that if I were interested in Corporate, I'd be going after this like a fat kid on a smartie. I woud suggest that if you are interested in getting your foot int...

Re: Runway Incursion?

Caught about 10 minutes of Flying Wild Alaska the other night. I watched two of their planes land on the same runway at the same time. Both of us said we didn't know how they could do that. They looked quite a lot closer than what you described. Don't see any reason why they can't wait.

Re: Ridiculously blunt salary question.

I suppose you're referring to me. I was only trying to illustrate that it's not all unicorns and glitter out there. If you've got a good job, and it pays well, you have to be very dedicated to chop your pay from $85K way down to $25K. If you're only looking at the finances of it, do some math. I'm s...

Re: Ridiculously blunt salary question.

It kind of is about the money in this case. He has a job that he loves and earns good money. Why leave a job you love for another that you think you will love? Money. Year 1 - $25000/year. Laid off in 6 months. Off work for rest of year. Year 1.5 - $25000. Treated like garbage Year 2.5 - $30000. Tre...

Re: I need help, again.

I didn't mean to imply that it was your company. I should have said the company you are booking the charter flight for. Privately held - have at'er. I am sure everyone will enjoy the trip and I'm sure that they earned it. I'm only sorry that I couldn't help more. I'm sure I'd enjoy the trip as much ...

Re: I need help, again.

If Cat Driver's company is publicly traded, management will have to answer to shareholders at the next share holder meeting. Dockjock has a point that the optics of chartering a Lear or two had better make it worth something to the shareholders. I don't own their stock so as far as I'm concerned, I ...

Re: I need help, again.

I'd do it in the 200 but it would be a few trips back and forth. The ones that come to mind are Northern Thunderbird for the 1900 and Pasco for the Saab. Most economical way to go I would think. What about Regional 1 or CMA? Jazz is another option. I had looked into a weekend charter a few years ago...

Re: Would'ya?

I don't see this as a heroic kamikaze mission. I would do it because it needed to be done. I would do it because I possessed a set of skills that could help my neighbours and my countrymen. I have no motivation beyond helping out. There's an interesting article in the Japanese news indicating that o...

Re: Would'ya?

Passionate? Maybe. I'm actually quite disappointed in myself for not having reacted with the same level of passion to the earthquake in New Zealand. To me, Japan is on a whole other scale though. I spent a good part of my early career flying medevacs so here's an example that I'm familiar with. You ...

Re: Would'ya?

I'm not saying that I would run into a burning building just to see what it is like on the inside. I do advocate for trying something rather than sitting around and watching the plant melt down. If they're at the point where they need helicopters then it's because someone further up the chain has de...

Re: Would'ya?

Absolutely. I'm a fixed wing guy but if I flew a water bomber or something I'd be volunteering for that too. I have been watching the news. My heart breaks just watching the devastation over there. If there were any way I could help out I would. I wish there were something I could do above donating ...

Re: The road trip and the wait.....

I don't work for any of those companies so I'm not sure how they hire. I would guess it's all done out of Winnipeg but I am just guessing. Best to ask a Perimeter guy or better yet, call ahead or stop in Winnipeg first and ask their head office if hiring is done locally. Might just save you a trip u...

Re: The road trip and the wait.....

I think all of those guys are down in Winnipeg. If you're actually driving to Thompson, I think Missinippi has a base there. Don't know if that is where their office is located.
