Re: Getting paid by client to provide sightseeing in my plane?
You clearly know the rules, so unless you have a cpl as a driver, can't do it legally. Then comes all of that commercial operating certificate stuff. If you can set the whole thing up as a non profit, maybe that would work? Sketchy I know, but in this world of billion dollar corporations getting tax...

Re: Bombardier rips into the Globe and Mail
As an aside, the Quebec government gave the bulk of rescue money, 1 billion, a few years back. The feds pitched in with a little more, some hundreds of millions or so. Bombardier also sold off other bits, one of which was their training unit, to CAE. Wonder why they can't pull an air Canada trick wi...

Re: English Vs French on the Radio.
I don't know why I am a sucker for abuse, but whatever, I know I am wading into a situation where I will be torn apart to itty bitty pieces. I am an English guy. I live in Quebec. Because of that, and that only (read, no special merit), I am fully bilingual. But that does not matter. If you fly in Q...

Re: Record revenues vs 4 year flat pay
ummmnh.....stupid as I am, hey I was born that way...... Is the big red pilot thing nothing more than getting the job, and cruising along with little effort to get to a top paying place in life that will guarantee you an upper class existence with zero jeopardy? You can try to figure out all of the ...

Re: Colombian authorities have disclosed that none of the 14 occupants of a Douglas DC-3 have survived
Yes in today's world of flying modern technology is making airplanes safer and safer. One of the best examples I can think of is Airbus Industries including alfa floor protect in their airplanes, it was fun deliberately holding the sidestick full aft and watching the computers prevent me from stall...

Re: Hiring Surge
As many have pointed out, timing is everything. As old fella said, he did it at a certain time and a certain place, but it all worked out, as far as i can tell. So, with the ''timing is everything'' notion in mind, looks like there will be pretty good options available for years to come. I didn't se...

Re: Issues with the Aviation Document Booklet
I looked at that blue abortion that I keep in my junk drawer and checked the expiry date on it, it was 2015. If I my licenses and ratings are invalid in the Peoples Republic of Canada does that invalidate all my FAA licenses I flew under for decades back when I flew for a living? Don't think so, bu...

Re: 737 Max 8 Simulators
Oh great. Another “ my dick is bigger than your dick “ post. Sorry to disappoint, but no. Don't really care how big my dick is cuz it has done the job. It's a "different" skill set with it's own set of circumstances. Everything to do with boring and tedious engineer stuff, nothing to do with pushin...

Re: 80k for a government chief pilot
The above post is absolutely spot on.
Never been the chief, but was the right hand man. And he was my friend.
To this day, I would NEVER want to be the top dog.
And they pay crap to the guy who actually has enough guts who stands up and takes it on.....

I know all or that, what is your point? Have....you...ever....been....in the trenches with the grunts actually doing the job? The perspective of the general in the pentagon is a whole lot different than the guy getting the shots. Some company gets a contract, big deal. The max sim training would hav...

Not trying to be a smartass......
Sounds like commercial ops (the gate agents) forgot to talk to flight ops ( the dispatchers).

Sounds a bit wrong. Even a TC inspector with a minimum atpl and no responsibility makes 100K to start.
I am surprised.

Re: 10 years ago today Colgan Air 3407
An instructor with 1500 hrs can get an ATPL. Absolutely. And I was one of them decades ago. I was fortunate enough to not put a scratch on a person or a plane, so atpl or not does not strike me as a barometer to safety. Both pilots had sufficient hours. Something else, and circumstances, had lots t...

Re: 737 Max 8 Simulators
A level D, (the highest level of sim certification), is a fantastic training tool, but many forget that it is nothing more than a real nice video game, and it is not an airplane. The sad accidents were caused by Boeing's omission of the mcas system information. So, the pilots did not know about it, ...

https://voiceofthemarkets.blogspot.com/2019/02/dubai-bailout-continues-still-unable-to.html Good reading for anyone thinking of heading out that way. You won't read very much of this in the local papers - even PPRuNe is still blocked. Quite an eye opener. Are the good times over, so to speak?

Re: Pilot shortage State side
Could be, wouldn't be surprised. It has happened in the past though. I seem to recall rcaf types ending up at united (or some other major) in the 60's, I think that was even after a recruiting roadshow but not sure. My US based friend actually confirmed that. Another time was either in the late 70's...

Re: China's AT200 Cargo Drone Production Commenced
Drones are yesterday's news. Easy.
Now, stick it in realtime circumstances. It all falls down, for now.
If ATC gets total remote control of everything that flies, then and only then will the concept work.
It can happen........someday....but not soon.
