Re: Retirement age.
No one from the generations after you will have the same opportunity. That comment doesn't make sense...salaries are higher now than ever. Take-home pay for 777 captain is about $180k for $300k salary. Save 100k for 10 years and you'll have sufficient income from investments to be able to retire co...

Re: More trouble for Boeing and it’s Max and now NG...
Figured that airplane drivers would be just a teeny bit smarter than the sensationalist journalists who are looking for a juicy low brow story. I am starting to think that drivers have troubles seeing 20/20. Perhaps some experts out there can explain to me why I had zero issues in an NG after, what,...

Re: Retirement age.
Gonna cal bs on this....... Millenials are sitting in (eventually) super high paying seats. It started about 4-5 years ago. They will be flying in the stratosphere in a matter of 1-2 years. So.....this stuff about a handful of bored old guys taking away a tiny handful of jobs from the poor young is ...

Obviously I have zero clue of reality but here goes........ From real people I know, Maritime lawyer quit at 70, not because he hated his job, but only because the firm was not so much fun anymore. He now set himself up with his own firm, and is getting contracts galore. Calls his own shots, likes w...

Re: Pros and Cons of working at Sky Regional
Here's the deal gals and guys. Stating the painful obvious....... Skyregional asserts that pilots are cheap, and should be paid low money. They do not, and will not, understand that you can pay money AND make bucks like Southwest, a supposedly low cost operator. It's all about senior management ego....

Read through the thread; man, I need to get a life instead of looking at a smartfone..... But anyways, you are all right about boeing dropping the ball on this one. Shutting the place down and throwing everyone in jail will not solve squat. Said it before, ended up doing all of that sim level d sim ...

Re: So even the greatest pilots in the world (Americans) couldn't save you from the MAX...
Sad situation indeed with the loss of life. BUT, flown Boeing's for a large part of my time on this planet with zero problems. As far as the max is concerned, just another 737 updated model. I flew it. The previous 800 version that is. So...... The whole yadda yadda conversation about mcas has been ...

Re: Laser Eye Surgery
For what it's worth, I have an acuaintance who did it decades ago and had zero problems.
Still flies big planes at an advanced age.
I got a cataract problem fixed. No medical restrictions.
The eye doc's are pretty darn good.
Don't worry. You run more risk by driving your car on a highway.

Re: DOH merge.
Would that hypothetical 6 year AT 330 captain getting 6 years AC seniority and bidding whatever that would afford them not be fair? People like this are going to be the major losers in the deal. Some people are going to go from WB Captain to NB FO. Bang on. That's the way it has always been. Screw ...

Re: Time for Transat pilot future poll
Ummmh........ Canadian got a horrible almost, but not quite, botl deal shoved down their throats. Something like a 1 in5 deal, can't quite recall right now. Worse still, all approved by a federal judge. I think Trump calls that fake news. On the other hand you do freely admit you are confused a lot...

Ummmh........ Jazz never got a pilot merger. Neither did Sky regional, Georgian, or EVAS, or anyone else for that matter. Canadian got a horrible almost, but not quite, botl deal shoved down their throats. Something like a 1 in5 deal, can't quite recall right now. Worse still, all approved by a fede...

Re: WestJet to be sold in friendly deal to Onex Corp. for $5 billion
WestJet has only had one quarterly loss since 2005. If that's struggling, then boy would I sure like to struggle! Yes, trouble started as they were rolling out encore, which they then had to scale back, then came swoop and new routes and new aircraft. Just shows that your quarterly returns are tail...

Re: Leaving a good paying secure job for aviation
A lot of it is just attitude and outlook. The mindset of "hanging on for the pension" makes my skin crawl, and why I don't think I could ever go into a job where that was my overriding priority. Unfortunately that type of thinking exists in aviation too, you see it in the heavily unionized airlines...

Re: 737 Max 8 Simulators
Confusedalot, How would an MCAS failure look differently in a simulator compared to a stab trim runaway? What are the differences in the emergency drill? Answer: there is no difference. Just stumbled on this...... You are 100% right, hit the switches and everything gets disabled. One caveat, never ...

Re: What is Enerjet up to?
Just curious. So.....with all of this talk of whores and all.... What exactly is a non whore paycheck for a narrowbody? Left seat/ right seat; 300k/200k, 200k/150k, 150k/100k, 100k/ 60k? Neither westjet nor air Canada pay a whole lot on hiring. I am confused, stupid as I am. Looking forward to the g...

Re: Logging cruise relief time outside of Canada
Cathay is not the only airline that uses second officers. Your very own country uses the very same concept via air Canada. The AC types are however obligated by the rules to get a type rating, but that rating is limited to a "relief pilot", stamped on your licence as RP. Can't do much with that eith...

Re: AirTransat: for sale-Blue-rouge...?
Transat being bought by an airline is really far off the mark. Why would AC want to get into managing hotels? People should be looking at the fact they increased their foreign ownership limit allowance to the federal limit of 49% at the last meeting... Just like the Hunters did when they got TUI's ...

Do I ever emphathize with you. I was a government employee by circumstance. 9/11 happened, aviation people were kicked into the street, no prospects, so I applied. Got the job. Thought I had it made. And then reality hit me in the face like a landmine. So.....the trollers have absolutely zero idea o...

I'll take that on....... In the US, tons of big timers disappeared. PanAm, TWA, Braniff, and on it goes. The market there can absorb a failure. Others take up the slack. Not the same situation here. Big red goes natuarally, nobody can take up the market, leading to serious problems for the state. Ev...

Re: Refractive Lens Surgery
Got the operation done in both eyes because of cataracts. Not the same perhaps as your situation. The big takaway is to NOT get a multifocal lens implant because that will invalidate night flying privileges. Apparently multifocals cause all kinds of glare related issues at night. So get monofocal im...
