Re: Who here has been ramped by TC?

I've been ramped once by TC, back in 2001 while flying a C-T310R. They approached me while I was doing my walk around, asked to see the documents, checked for valid insurance, C of R, C of A, W&B, my Licence and Medical. They were friendly. It took 10 mins. If you have your paperwork in order its a ...

Re: Looking for help/advice

If he is getting into it to see the world and travel, don't! He will be highly disappointed. I am curious as to why you'd think this. As for the OP's question. The advice to take him on a Fam. flight is solid. If he likes that then enrolling in a Private pilot license course to see if he has the ap...

Re: Flying into Fairmont hot springs airport

It’s been 7-8 years since I’ve flown in there so my experience is somewhat dated now but if memory serves me correct it had an RNAV approach with fairly high minimums but nothing odd or difficult about it. I was going in there with a CJ4.

Re: K country crash

To me the Manifold Pressure trace looks a lot like an out of rig throttle quadrant, as he was reducing MP he got to a point around 24” they were both matched up nicely then as he reduced more the right starts to reduce quicker than the left, at about 18” gets them matched up again for a second then ...

Re: AVRO 100 First Officer or King Air 200 Captain

I'd take the one that allows me to be home with my family the most, has the best company behind it, and pays enough to keep me relatively fat and happy. I always find this to be a puzzling comment amongst pilots. When you chose to be a pilot did you not understand what the job entailed? I mean sinc...

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

I had LASIK done 17 years ago. Went from 20/200 to 20/10 and still have 20/10 to this day. At some point I will probably need reading glasses but this has nothing to do with the LASIK surgery, the need for reading glasses is from old age as the muscles controlling ones lens don’t work as well as the...

Re: For the Oldtimers: Chinook Flying Services - Calgary

The Champs I know they had were from a bit earlier time frame (late forties and fifties) they were CF-FMN, CF-FMK and CF-FMJ.
Also in 1949-50’s ish era Chinook was owned by Franz McTavish, Frank Clayton and Eustace Bowhay.

Re: C525 goes missing over Lake Erie with 6 aboard

Is a CJ4 really a "high-performance" jet? Not being facetious, but I thought it was a descendant of the Citation I/II? The CJ4 has a typical cruise speed of .76 or around 440ktas, typical rotation speed is 105 kias and landing ref of 105-112 kias. Unlike the Citation I/II with its straight wing the...

Re: Chartright MD87 FO job

I’m curious as to why this is “sad but true”? When one is interviewing for a position flying a managed aircraft you are completely free to negotiate salary, vacation and other conditions and terms. If what you want can’t be met you’re free not to accept the position. That’s the beauty of it. It’s co...

Re: Typical on-demand charter schedule?

You are going to find as many different answers to that question as there are charter planes. In my case I know the aircraft owners scheduled trips 10 months in advance and charter trips are typically 2 weeks notice, in the past four years I have been called out on two hours notice just once. But li...

Re: North Atlantic Ops

So true. I'd encourage anyone new to NAT crossings or maybe even those that have not done one in awhile to take a look at NAT DOC 007 communications section and familiarize themselves with what and how to make position reports, request clearances etc. Even write each one out on a note pad verbatim w...

Now before some of you get all up in arms, I'll preface my comments by saying yes current duty time regulations for commuter and airline operations are in need of ...

Re: RAIC application refusal

There is no regulation specifically requiring a RAIC at any airport in Canada for pilots, what's needed is a document of entitlement of which a RAIC is but one method of compliance. Your pilots license is also a perfectly valid document of entitlement if certain rules are followed, see below. Margin...

Re: Is it worth it anymore? ( salaries ?)

7 years into this industry since my CPL was complete. 5k hours, 3 companies, never made a T4 more than 50k yr, but managed to pay off more than that in student debt. Salary today is about 40k. Now I have the opportunity for a big raise, but circumstances don’t really jive for a poor schedule to do ...

Sean, You face the challenge we all have had to deal with. The old catch 22 of how to get a job when you need experience but how to get experience without a job. This is nothing new it's been this way for a hundred years. The fact that you have a CPL although an admirable personal achievement accoun...
