Re: Any instructor paid while they stay home?
I believe MRU is still paying their flight instructors. They are on salary, of course. Haven't heard about anything from the schools that pay hourly.

Re: Principal Air in Abbotsford - Thoughts?
They used to be in Chilliwack and moved there because of *cough*politics*cough*.
Haven't heard anything bad. From what I have heard, the CFI/business owner runs a tight ship and it is a pretty decent school in the lower mainland.

Re: Flight Instructors - What is important?
Unpopular opinions, but I have to agree with Photofly on most of the points he makes... While instructing is generally considered a stepping stone to bigger metal, no one should be doing it without giving 100% at it. Your student is not someone who is paying for your flight hours, they are there to ...

Re: Transferring through terminal zones
My understanding is that if ATC creates a strip on you, it will typically have A/C type, registration/ident, squawk code, routing (if you provide it to them) among other things. More so if you filed a flight plan or if they have a master on your aircraft. But I find your question not very clear. Cou...

Re: Renewing Expired Flight Instructor Rating
That’s correct. Note that when you take the flight test, you will have to meet the standard for a class 3 instructor, not the easier standard of a class 4 instructor, the latter being the standard most candidates at that exam - being new instructors - are expected to meet. If you only meet the lowe...

Pasco operates Saab 340 as Westjet Link out of YYC. Back home every night except when you do a night split which means you leave after 10 pm and back here for 8.30 am.

Re: TC to FAA Conversion
As a Canadian citizen, do I need some sort of visa to go across the border to do this exam? Nope. Your Canadian passport is the only document you need. Be sure to bring at least TWO government IDs to write your exams. One needs your current address on it. So passport and driver's license is suffici...

Re: IFR training - Which school in Vancouver?
Does ProIFR out of Victoria still exist? I've heard only good things about them. Otherwise, ProIFR out of Boundary Bay seems to have the best reputation down there. If you would rather do it quick and at the cheap, go to Cornwall in ON, they seem to have the reputation of getting it done cheap and f...

Re: TC - Remaining Current
The 2 year recency is relatively easy to obtain, especially if you are still going through training. If you have done any one of them, it keeps you current. A couple of the most obvious ones you might have done recently which could mean you are 2-year current: 1. A new rating added on to your licens...

Do the Aerocourse weekend ground school if you can afford it. Worth every penny!
If not, get the Aerocourse workbook and go through the questions in there.
Also, please use the search function, there's been a ton of very similar thread in here recently. Thanks!

Has Morningstar started flying out of Calgary now? Feel like I've heard them at least on two different occasions. Both later in the evening.

Re: Flight Simulator
Your best bet is to do a PPC in a Level A or higher Full Flight Simulator (FFS) and that should cover all your bases. I don't think you can do it on a Flight Training Device (FTD) akin to a Redbird or an Alsim. Your other option is to do it in a real twin that is not centreline thrust. For reference...

Re: Aerocourse INRAT Seminar
The Aerocourse INRAT is pretty good IMHO. Did mine in Calgary with Max Mitchell teaching it.. He was pretty knowledgeable and the course covered most if not all of the bases. It is heavier on the INRAT exam side of things than the IFR flying side or at least that is what I felt sitting in there back...

+1final28 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 8:56 am Be aware that when you start out as a class 4 instructor you need to work at an FTU until you can upgrade to class 3. A class 4 instructor rating needs to be renewed every 12 months. So if you are not planning to instruct in the next few years you may end up redoing it eventually.

Re: saron samra prep
I think they only do the 3 day course for the ATPL. It is only the INRAT where they have an in-depth and a crash course. Aerocourse has a companion workbook that is essentially a question bank that comes with the course. It can also be bought separately and covers almost everything you need to know ...

Re: Flight School
I second this. I think Harv's Air has an iATPL program but I am not sure. Personally, I would suggest going straight CPL with Group 1 IFR and then writing your ATPL exams later.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 5:19 pm Steinbach, in the winter. Sure winner for all requirements.
