Re: Blank Student Pilot Permits in Ontario region
I am in the PAC region and we have been instructed to email the aviation.pac@tc.gc.ca address to order new SPP forms. Not sure if it is the same in ONT?

Re: Best Headset 2022
I've been a lifelong fan of the Lightspeed series. Had the QFR XC, then the Sierra and now the Zulu 3. I can see how the company has gotten progressively worse in their support and product design decisions. Would not recommend anyone get a Lightspeed going forward. They had a great lifetime support/...

Re: high school student starting flight school
If you are in a city or town with multiple flight schools, make sure you go out and check out the location, talk to the business owners or staff and get a feel of the place. Also talk to students if you see some wandering around. Take a discovery flight at more than one location (again, if you have ...

Thanks for the clarification! Reading one of the posts I almost misinterpreted as having to re-register every year!

Re: ATIS in terminal airspace with one radio
I once used a handheld radio to tune into the ATIS and placed the radio’s speaker against my headset’s microphone so that my student and I could both hear the ATIS over the intercom while still monitoring the TMNL/TWR frequency while “bar-hopping” YXX, YNJ and YPK.

Re: Forced approach - T method vs overhead 360
I teach the 360 without getting into the nitty gritty of altitudes but rather teaching the student to eyeball it on their way down. Some of the valleys out here in the BC interior can get a bit narrow the lower you get, so this give you ample room and more importantly keeps you close to he field. On...

I have been hearing that insurance premiums have jumped across the board for a lot of people too.mtall38@hotmail.com wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 12:17 pm Hi all, what companies were you using for insurance? Ours just got jacked to $3300, increase of $1k over last, where it also jumped up!

Re: Class IV Flight Instructor Job Market (West or East)
Also remember that the entire instructor rating course is one long interview. If you don’t show a professional attitude while training, you’re probably not going to get hired at the end of the course regardless of how well you do. My $0.02

Re: Career path for foreign student pilots
Things are very much in flux right now with the aviation industry in Canada. There is no right answer but a question of how much risk you’re willing to accept. If things go well, aviation might return to pre-Covid madness within a year or two, so your timing might work out well. On the other hand, a...

Re: Class 2 Instructor written
The AIRAT is for both the Class 1 and 2 with 80% or 70% pass marks respectively. I would suggest aiming for the 80% since it’s good for two years and maybe you can consider upgrading to a class 1 within said time. I’ve had pretty good luck studying with the Sharper Edge instructor book. Expect a few...

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the CFI in the US the equivalent of a Class 3 flight instructor? Meaning that the CFI can do freelance right out of the gate?

Re: IFR currency required for training flights
Thanks for all the responses, everyone. Thanks praveen4143, for detailing your experiences at Springbank - I would assume that Villeneuve (Edmonton's version of Springbank for training) must be much the same. Shortly after posting, I realized that calling the regular 1-866-WXBRIEF phone number to a...

Re: IFR currency required for training flights
In Springbank and probably also the Edmonton region since they are both under the Edmonton ACC, you can absolutely file VFR slot times with a VFR flight plan to do IFR approaches. Give the ACC a call on the PPR number and tell them your departure aerodrome, planned flight routing including what appr...
