Re: Westwind
Thanks for giving us all the good advice tps8903 it makes reading this forum all that much more important for me to learn what to do and what not to do. So in a nut shell if you are involved in a serious accident do not co-operate with the accident investigators let a lawyer talk to them. For sure i...

Re: Best bank angle for a engine failure turnback
Exactly, when you can start the crosswind turn is determined by having enough height to make sure the wing does not drag on the ground.

Re: What about go arounds
I think you missed the point.... he's saying that depending on the aircraft, landing in the first third is not good enough. If you're in something small on a giant runway and your only goal is to land in the first third, you're not exercising enough discipline. If you get sloppy on the big runways,...

Re: Are We Safe?
I think it’s going to insult a lot of sky gods when young pilots with a fraction of their hours and years of experience are going to do the same job just as good and hit the big iron pay dirt much sooner. Yes the newer younger pilots can do the same job and just as well as those who did it thirty y...

Well Big Pratt you should just not read my posts and try and live with just seeing my name there. I bet if you really try you could do it. :prayer: By the way I see you were interested in Gyroplanes. I have a FAA Commercial Gyroplane License and lots of time flying many types, I used to train people...

Re: Westwind
O.K. fair question.
It is highly unlikely anyone involved in that situation would still be working, as far as I can recall they all were older than me and I am 82 and have been retired for a lot of years.
It was in the early seventies.

Now, I don't know the circumstances of your situation, but the "Powers-that-be" at the time may have had similar thoughts. Has there ever been an accident or incident since that time with that aircraft? No there has not been another accident with that type of aircraft because it was a PBY5A waterbo...

Re: Westwind
What political agenda does an accident investigation team have? My opinion of it would be that it's a "just the facts Ma'am" report, with the bottom line of finding cause, not blame, and trying to avoid a repeat. North Shore , when a Government body refuses to accept concrete provable facts relatin...

That's pure bullshit, Cat, and you know it. You're saying that in over 50% of the cases, the TSB gets it wrong? Where did I say in over 50% of the cases they get it wrong? I personally do not trust their reports from my own personal experience with them. It was my experience that they can political...

Re: Westwind
There are basically two types of accidents. (1) Preventable: The accident was caused by poor decision making or poor airplane handling skills by the crew. (2) Not preventable: The accident was caused by something beyond the control of the crew such as mechanical or structural failure. The want to kn...

why these Hr guys and chief pilots looking for 1500 for their King Air or 1000 for their Cessna caravan? Because that is their company policy for minimum hours. is there anyone out there who is willing to go middle of nowhere to fly a King Air if they have 1500H? Yes, there are many who would love ...

Ziabatsu, this is the internet and almost every discussion gets off the rails either by accident or by someone with their own ideas. When you make any comment here someone just may jump all over you and make it look like your opinion is flawed. A good example here is the discussion on wing contamina...

Who flies DC3? There was a time when the DC3 was the most used airplane of its type and arguably one of the best designed airplanes ever built. Even though it has been replaced by more modern turbine airplane it s still in use in a few places. For instance Borek chose the Basler conversio...

The amount of shit on the wing of a plane - and it still climbs and flies just fine - will amaze you if you haven't flown "up North" very much. Well I have flown " up North " quite a lot and find that statement to be down right frightening. A lot of low time pilots read these forums and those kinds...

Re: Westwind
If it was something other than crashing due to contaminated wings the company or the pilots will quickly let everyone know.
For sure they will not wait two years for the TSB B.S. to be released
