Re: Checklists
Until I trained with SidestickStirrer in the RV, i'd never heard the EFOTO/EFATO acronyms, nor their mating acronyms TSB and SLAM. I now recite them (quietly, or internally) before takeoff. This weekend I did a three-leg flight without using my checklist for startup or runup... The only times I ever...

Don't the bylaws have wording to the effect that membership applications (and perhaps renewals) are approved by the President? I forget the exact wording now...

Re: Boeing sued over deadly Asiana Airlines crash
Didn't it only kill *two* teenagers? I thought the third one was killed by a fire truck speeding to the scene of the crash... Better sue the fire truck manufacturer as well for not including collision avoidance systems or providing adequate driver training.

Re: Unable to Access CARS via the Transport Canada Website??
You're still able to access them via the TC website. The TC website just redirects you to another site where they are now stored.
Sounds like someone was trying to consolidate storage requirements for their websites.

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW
You need to stop focussing on the political rhetoric. The only relevant item is the *allegation* that Doug Ronan's membership was *refunded* after his renewal was *accepted*. Has it been shown that a membership payment was made and confirmed in advance of his previous expiry date, and then refunded ...

Re: Some people's kids.
Exactly. I'd rather have the Fiero than the Chevette.iflyforpie wrote:Well.... so did the Fiero with it's Chevette engine and underpinnings.
Good analogy, though... The engine in my RV started it's life in a Cessna. I'd rather have the RV.

Re: Some people's kids.
You really think the average joe knows or cares about the difference between a nose dragger and a tail dragger? Talking about it by the water cooler? Absolutely not. But every one of them can tell just by looking at photos that the fast Taildragger looks more interesting than the Cessna. Just like ...

Re: Some people's kids.
You know, most of the general non-flying public will say "you fly? that's so cool!" and you'll go up a notch in their minds. But take them to the airport and show them a rented Cessna 172, with four seats and a training wheel up front, and you'll get a totally different reaction than if you show the...

Re: Twin down at Courtenay Airpark
Biggest possible obstacle on approach at Courtenay is a tall person on the walking path that runs across the end of the runway. Or maybe the waist-high fence beside him, that starts about a foot below runway grade. You can make a rather flat approach.Colonel Sanders wrote:2) no obstacles on approach and

Re: Not a Lot of Traffic in The Lower Mainland
I think the smart ones will give up and move elsewhere or like Rowdy was saying, or the Island 8) I'll take the Island. At least I wouldn't have to live in Calgary. :) Percentage of VFR flyable days would be higher on the island too, i'd guess, but I don't know that for certain. Not as cold in wint...

I would have suggested Courtenay ($1.76 right now) but the runway appears to be contaminated with a twin.

Re: GTA aerobatics
Really? That video is lame. Planes fly that low over my house every week, and i'm a 20 minute walk from the closest airport. We're on the flight path, and training aircraft fly low sometimes. It's no big deal. It's unusual for that area (Richmond Hill) apparently, so that's what's caught him out. I ...

$1.70 in Sechelt. Much quieter up the coast, and it's a nice flight there, too.CpnCrunch wrote:$2/l avgas is just the final nail in the coffin

Can't see the second prop, but if it's as intact as the first prop, then neither engine was running when it stopped... Either that or it stopped against something and the props never touched ground. TWO overhauls would be expensive.

#2 will only be acceptable when transponders are $200 and don't have to be recertified every year. Or at the very least if there is a "non-certified" transponder option that's economically reasonable and acceptable for private, non-commercial flight. Just like our handheld GPS'.

Re: COPA Board BREAKS THE LAW
Any idea what it'll cost to take this to court? Or consideration as to who will pay for it? If "COPA" is forced to pay for it, because they screwed up, then we all, as COPA members, pay for it. Personally i'd rather see the money go to a low-probability win (wasn't one of the issues a sum of money p...

Re: Not a Lot of Traffic in The Lower Mainland
And if you talk to NavCanada they'll tell you that the skies in the lower mainland have never been busier. So much so that they want ModeC required from Hope to Vancouver, ground to 12.5K. There's so many of us that they can't keep us apart and we all have to have transponders and HOLY SH*T THERE'S ...
