Re: How long til $100k?
That's not what I wrote, and I'm quite sure you're aware of that. I'm saying that 85% of lawyers/doctors/engineers who are interested in getting their CPL would have the capabilities to achieve that. I also wrote that of those, some might choose to pursue different careers instead. Ug, so I said I ...

Re: How long til $100k?
I take it you haven't attended/passed a doctor, lawyer or engineering degree? Since you like to compare to other professions, I'll do the same for this particular point. It's not only 'not exactly on the same level', it's in entire different buildings. Both in time and difficulty get licensed. Perh...

Re: How long til $100k?
I entirely disagree with your dismissal of comparisons between pilots and other professions. While it's not on exactly the same level, I frankly find "laughable" a little insulting. It's not as rigorous, and less expensive, but also a completely different skillset outside of pure academics. If every...

Re: How long til $100k?
The public doesn't have some sort of jealous hate-on for pilots like some strange ducks have mentioned on here. I have never, ever, ever, had someone come up to me and say "Pilot eh? I've heard that's really easy to do." Yet the shock from people when I talk about training costs and compensation fo...

Re: How long til $100k?
Well, yes. This average person who's making 50k (Which is much higher than an entry level flying job.) isn't generally upset that a doctor, engineer, lawyer, etc make more money than them. They understand the rigors of education and that fact that they're different careers for different folks. Peopl...

Re: How long til $100k?
I hope the takeaway for anyone from the public reading this thread is how utterly obscene this is. Not only should we be asking "How long to 140k" given that's the same buying power as 100k in 2010, but look at these timelines after investing nearly or in excess of 6 figures for a professional educa...

Re: I give up on Canadian airlines
Awesome. Published inflation from 2013 is exactly 30%. I just read a release from ACPA in 2014: "Air Canada has reached a tentative agreement with its pilots that will provide labour peace for 10 years and increase the airline’s flexibility amid stiffer competition from WestJet Airlines Ltd. and pot...

Re: Commuting from YOW to YUL
I have the issue that I live on the other side of town. So for me it’s a solid 2 hrs. Especially if you also count the time it takes to go from the lot in Montreal to the terminal. Even more if I hit the morning rush hour. Regarding the loads I’ve not had an issue - and as a backup there is always ...

Re: Commuting from YOW to YUL
I actually considered doing that. Living in YOW with base in YUL. The drive is a colossal pain in the ass and 2hrs is definitely calculating it optimistically. Keep in mind also that parking in YUL is remote and not covered. It might work on paper but in practice it’s not doable. I got myself based...

Re: EXPECTED NUMBER OF RETIREES AT AC.
We have a website made by ALPA to get an estimate for the upgrade times. I was hired a year ago and can be 330 WB captain, bottom reserve, in 24 years from now. 777 captain bottom reserve 26 years from now. For narrow body, 220 captain on reserve in 3 years and a block in 8 years. That's for the YY...

Re: Where to knock out Group 1 quickly?
Fastest I know of is Cornwall aviation. It's the only thing they do. You can fly twice a day and knock it out quickly. It's outside of Ottawa however, but they have hotels nearby.

Re: EXPECTED NUMBER OF RETIREES AT AC.
Has there been any recent discussion around the 67 retirement age? I half assume between shortage of pilots, in-flight technology, and health improvements that by the time I retire in a few decades it'll have been changed.

Re: US Regional FO - Year 1 - $206,000 Canadian
Just to add my 2c, if this is data driven, and we're using 55% inflation, it's a red herring. Garbage in garbage out. That stat can and will be be used because it's officially posted, but it's completely arbitrary. We all know full well a house or rent is not merely 55% more. Groceries, restaurants,...

Re: Thunder Airlines MU2 accident in Wawa
I’d imagine MU2’s would be similar to most other turboprops and on a runway the length of Wawa you wouldn’t need the brakes really Unless there was a swap in the last while, YUA had the 5 blade composites as well, which hauled on reverse like it has a tailhook. It's not a great place overall but le...

If people stopped responding to this troll he'll eventually go away. It's obvious that there's no actual discussion going on and he's just spamming, and derailing all the AC subjects. Going on the ignore list.

Re: Wear your goddamn lanyard!
Spoken like a desperate union leader knowing he’s not getting what he’s hoping for… Out of curiosity, why are you on this site? It's an aviation forum primarily for pilots. What's the point of coming on here without sharing any common interests, purely to comment with the intent of pointlessly anta...
