What's the deal with Kilmer and Onex?

#1 Post by tired of the ground » Tue Jan 09, 2018 1:02 pm

What is the deal with 2, gta based, large Gulfstream operating companies that have US Reg'd aircraft?

They have multiple ads out with sky high requirements. They can obviously ask whatever they want, but from my understanding that pilot doesn't exist. Are they holding out for that unicorn pilot, are they fishing for a TFW or have I missed the plot?

Both high end operators with good salaries and benefits. The requirements are easily met with the current pilot supply. They are looking for the right fit for the department and can be choosy. Why US? I guess their corporate structure is suited to it.

It's nice to see a flight department so well run that they have the ability to wait and find the right candidate.

Thanks

If someone has a GIV AND GVI rating and can work in the states they can make more than these guys are posting. These guys are fishing for something.

One reason some corporations register their aircrafts in the USA is to get around the CARS and their stricter rules when compared to part 91 operators for both maintenance and crew standards.

They may also do this to avoid paying Canadian taxes which doesn't really make them good corporate citizens.

TOTG you have missed the plot
Pilots with those qulifications exist, they are not unicorns as you suggest.
Its a legitimate posting, and a great flight department.
Maybe the current Captn gave a 6 months or years notice of retirement. Plus once a Toronto based pilot has been chosen, it takes time to convert your TC ATPL to an American ATP.

There is no shortage at that level of the industry.

The pilot who walks in with two type ratings is also the one who walked away from their last job with two type ratings. That’s not always the ideal way to get good, long-term people.

Maybe people do that in the 702/703 carriers, but good Corporate employers see right through that old trick in the first 10 seconds of any interview process. The very good one's actually pay qualified people to stay. Amazing right? The way to get good long term people is to seriously vet those who apply, (as will happen at both ONEX and KILMER) and remember one very important thing, respect in the Corporate (esp.at the higher end) comes from being known in the industry as a stand up professional and well qualified person. Pretty sure that comes with experience (with type ratings attached!) The Corp world is small, and at the top end, very very select. And everyone knows everyone...If someone has a bad rep, it'll be known.

I'll agree with that 100%
