Another flock of birds

https://globalnews.ca/news/5768361/russ ... ing-birds/
=============
A passenger jet made an emergency landing in a field outside of one of Moscow’s airports on Thursday after colliding with a flock of birds, injuring at least 23 people, Russian officials said.

The Ural Airlines A321, carrying 226 passengers and a crew of seven, hit the birds as it took off Thursday from Moscow’s Zhukovsky airport en route to Simferopol in Crimea.

The airline said in a statement that the birds got into both of the plane’s engines, causing them to malfunction. The pilot then made an emergency landing in a cornfield about one kilometre from the airport.

Russian health authorities said 23 people, including five children, were taken to the hospital, and all but one were released following checkups and quick treatment.

Ural Airlines lauded the crew for its professionalism in arranging the evacuation. The company said the captain is a highly experienced pilot who had flown over 3,000 hours.

Footage from the scene showed the flight commander directing the passengers to walk away from the plane across the cornfield.

Well done by the crew in difficult circumstances. I don't think I've ever seen "3000 hours" and "highly experienced" in the same sentence before, but that seems to be our reality now.

There really is a Russian equivalent in everything related to aviation, isn't there?
"Years of training and instinct kicked in, coupled with the help of a great crew, gave us the most favourable outcome possible" Captain Cheski Sullenburgski said in a media statement.

And another A320. I have no clue what the aircraft stats are for birds bringing down a twin engine aircraft, but two high profile situations and both A320.

I know bird strikes can't be avoided, but might there be some design issue that makes this plane more susceptible?

A “design issue” that makes one aircraft more attractive for birds to fly into?? Now I’ve heard it all... I’ll have some of what you’re smokin’ please!

Probably meant that if a bird strike occurs, the aircraft is more likely to suffer greater damage...ie dual engine failure.

It is only in canada that 3000 hour pilots are only deemed fit to fly as an fo on a dash 8 by the Old and Wise Supercool Bushpilots. ;-)

All they have to do is put some chicken wire over the engine inlets

Guide vanes in front of the first stage of blades are especially helpful to prevent ingestion of mechanics but not so good at preventing headsets going through ( Royal airlines, I was there) Ducting and contouring helps with FOD, especially ice AND a more automate FCU etc is more likely to command a power down/reduction as Sully found out !

Now now, calm your insecurities. No one said anything bad about low time pilots. It was only (correctly) pointed out that 3000 hours isn't "highly experienced." It is about 3 or 4 years worth of experience. It would appear that it was enough for this pilot to do a seemingly good job.

^^^THIS^^^

It's appaling how dismally this forum has deteriorated when a user decides to interpret a post in the most stupid context possible just for the pleasure of inflating his insecure ego by belittling another.

Seriously Postmaster, did you have to work hard to contort your mind into coming to a conclusion that idiotic, or do you come by it naturally?
