Gear Up Touch and Go - Piper Aerostar Video
This is painful to watch. I guess the 4 page thread about this didn't arrive soon enough.

Not sure why but your link cuts in at the 20 second mark... make sure you see the whole thing.
That was pure dumb luck that he didn't end up in a ball off the end of the runway.

WOW!!!
Apparently, the pilot flew the thing 70 MILES back to home base.

I know Aerostars are quick, but probably not that quick with bent props and vibrating engines.

Well, according to some here, it could have been a good decision at the time....

Pretty sure that's the manufacturer recommended way of installing proplets...

I've got about 1200 hours in one of those things - I always wondered if you could do that.
"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

On the positive side, the amount of times one sees poor airplanes suffer at such unloving hands at the stick, and that they can miraculously still stay airborne. It gives one great confidence in the level of over-engineering that goes on in their design. Nothing shy of a direct hit from an 88...and even then.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!

Working as a mech. With farmers I can tell you it never ceases to amaze me what is considered airworthy and what is considered flyable
Re: Gear Up Touch and Go - Piper Aerostar Video
I'm just amazed the engines could produce enough power to spool the props up from hitting so much concrete and the props could produce enough thrust all curled up to overcome the drag from sliding the belly on the runway for so long

I'll bet his ground speed really stunk on that 70 mile leg home, though.fish4life wrote:I'm just amazed the engines could produce enough power to spool the props up from hitting so much concrete and the props could produce enough thrust all curled up to overcome the drag from sliding the belly on the runway for so long

Props look even worse than I was guessing from watching the video: Someone posted this video on Reddit as a sort of analogy of what's being attempted when flying an aircraft in that condition. Skip to 1:30 to get to the most entertaining bit.
