Re: CL215
Pictures were ugly, glad all are safe.
Greece lost a Canadair CL-215 fire-fighting aircraft on 26 June, the third major accident involving Hellenic Air Force CL-215/415 aircraft since 2014.
The aircraft (number 1111) crash landed some 30 km north-west of Athens after reportedly suffering an engine problem while fighting wild fires. The crew avoided major injury, although the aircraft was destroyed in a subsequent fire.
This third recent crash marks a serious crisis for the Hellenic Air Force's fire-fighting fleet, which continues to experience decreased serviceability rates of its increasingly old aircraft. Previous crashes occurred in July 2015 (of a CL-215) and in May 2014 (of a CL-415), both aircraft involved were damaged beyond repair.
Re: CL215
There is an other great pilot story behind this accident. Well done for the Aircranes pilots.

Re: CL215
Strasser said they just did what any aerial firefighters would do and that Papamarkos is “the real hero in this story.”
Hovering over a potential bomb to ensure the flight crew escaped burning to death then giving credit to the other guy. You sir are a class act.

BTW, Erickson pilot Mike Strasser (see the skiesmag link) is co-author of the Chicken Wings comics: http://www.chickenwingscomics.com/
