I've seen an 'after' picture elsewhere ..missing the left sponson, but the pylon is still there.

That odd euro habit of scooping in formation seems to have strolled around and bitten them....

Formation scooping, at least in a congested area seems obviously risky and unnecessary.

I saw that and wondered if it was a case of hot dogging in front of a crowd, or if it was the boaters not clearing the right of way of the aircraft. We cant see down the lake, that line may have been required for a safe departure. The spray of the lead plane would have concealed the boats a bit no?

From my understanding, they were scooping from a river's curb "forcing" them to pass pretty close to a bank were boats were tied down!
Looks like wingman got cornered by his leader during the maneuver.

It could have been much worse. To me, the very beginning of the video shows the second plane losing control on the water and veering to the left, he is then able to get right just in time to avoid plowing into the shore.

Honest question how long would it take to stop a 415 on water by chopping the power? I know the twin otters can stop in pretty amazing distances with high mounted turbines. These are boats though and I don't know if they can handle that same quick into disc / reverse the same way.

A view of the aftermath and some more of the river. French video, so I didn't get a lot out of what's being said.
Must have been a hell of a show for the couple sitting on the deck!

What's the purpose of the formation scooping? I see a third bomber on approach in the background as well.
