King Air from Strait Air rolled off at the end of the runway. No one was physically injured, but four people were brought to the hospital by precautions.

Most of the long list of crashes over the years had nothing two do with the number of engines but were instead, a wide variety of causes that would have a similar effect on either type.

First of all, it’s supposedly!
Secondly, two engines or one probably had nothing to do with the Abbotsford crash, if it did, ie; a botched engine out on departure, it was a crash either way! You know with one engine, if it quits you’re in a glider right.

I agree about the number of engines being no factor (as of right now) in the above mentioned accidents, but there have been far more accidents both fatal and non fatal involving King Air 100s than PC-12s in Canada.

How many of each are operated, my guess five or six times more King airs than PC12s but I’m too lazy to find out.

King Air 100s vs PC-12s? I think they’d be pretty equal.

I think the point is, that very few accidents were for the lack of another engine or prevented because there was an extra engine. Running out of gas, bad weather, CFIT... there’s most of your accidents right there.

Add engine failure mismanagement (incorrect procedures, shutting down wrong engine, Vmc roll) and the odds are more even.

I agree that there are way more King Airs than PC-12s except I said King Air 100s. By TC's count there are 64 100s both A and B models. There are 97 PC-12s.

But 47 years of KA ops, and twenty-ish of PC12.

Most of those KA accident have a common denominator... In my opinion the type flown here is irrelevant to the outcome.

King Air 100s are twice the age and significantly cheaper. Meaning more to stay on top of and maintain. More avionics available to keep you alive. Cheaper means easier access for sketchy operators who skimp on other areas too. Maintenance, deice, training, etc. PC12 has regulator required sim training, does a King Air 100 even have any sims?

Companies that consider a PC12, but want two engines get a king air 200.

PC12 also has better power to weight, meaning can fly its self out of trouble more easily. In flight icing, cfit, overloaded, etc.

As for which is safer? Depends more on the company and pilots flying it.
