Re: Q400 crash landing in Kathmandu
The ATC transcripts between the tower and the aircraft are posted on pprune. Sounds like a completely clueless crew who had no situational awareness and flew it into the ground.

That is indeed one distressing ATC transcript:

Yeesh.. that transcript was messed up.

I still don't understand how they hit very flat terrain though. The weather was VFR. There was massive confusion over the runway but how did they fly into the ground. Just stalled while maneuvering at low altitude?

Wasn't there a thunderstorm around? (Not making an excuse - just trying to find some sort of mitigating circumstance other than sheer F@#kery..)
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Jesus. That reads like a bad Abbot and Costello skit. Who’s on first?

I’m guessing that was from ATC and not the CVR. Huge differenceCL-Skadoo! wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 7:16 am That is indeed one distressing CVR transcript:

That's correct, I can't argue with that.
Re: Q400 crash landing in Kathmandu
Not exactly stable final approach. Actually, the whole approach was pretty bad.......

Re: Q400 crash landing in Kathmandu
Haven't read the report yet, just an article in a magazine, a little while back. The training captain was apparently upset that a different copilot questioned his competence. He was talking about it a lot(there may be more appropriate things to think about when going into Kathmandu). He screwed up the approach and was way high. I guess he didn't realize that he had actually passed the airport and was still looking for it ahead of him. After back and forth with ATC and maneuvering, he finally saw it and dove her down to land in a very unstable approach which didn't work out so well on the touchdown.
I guess that other copilot was correct.

Re: Q400 crash landing in Kathmandu
A perfect example of where it is easier to ask, "what did that crew do right?" vs. "what did they do wrong?"
They did nothing right. The entire thing is sickening to read and watch.
