What was that twang?

Post by pelmet »

Thought I might relay a story that I read about recently as it could help identify a problem for someone.

The pilot was flying an Aviat Husky and "felt a twang in the elevator control that abruptly moved the stick fore and aft, then all felt normal again"

What was it?

One of the streamlined steel wires that brace the tail had snapped. A good time to minimize g-loads.

Ah, Pontius. He made some fine cars, the Trans Am was a nice machine.

Thanks for the video, some good music. While no doubt inadvertent, you indirectly bring up a point about the twang sound of wires. It is somewhat similar for aircraft with flying wires. Different tensions make different sounds and there should be a proper sound for the wires when you 'play" them while checking them on a walkaround.

I will be very impressed with the first guy who can make a music video using airplanes only.

I also thought I might post the article as found on-line seeing as it has a good video of his flying through a mountain pass and dealing with deteriorating weather.
